Book Reviews of The Secret ScriptureBook Review: Cheated by the Ending Summary: 3 Stars
What a beautifully written novel. It's amazing how Barry made Roseanne such a wonderful, interesting character. But for me, the novel was ruined by a cheap, melodramatic ending. There was no need for it. Otherwise it would have been a 5.
Book Review: Masterpiece Summary: 5 Stars
At last, a novel that sends volts of sheer joy up and down my spine, such is the sparkling brilliance of Sebastian Barry's writing.
Please, I urge you... read this novel!
Book Review: Best Book I Read in '08 Summary: 5 Stars
With the exception of my re-reading J.P. Donleavy's The Ginger Man, The Secret Scripture was the best book I read in 2008. I couldn't put it down. A must-have for your library.
Book Review: Narrator is 'too' Irish Summary: 2 Stars
I could not understand a lot of the book because the narrator used too strong of an Irish brogue. Unless the listener *is* Irish others may also have a problem with her.
Book Review: Another Fine example of modern Irish literature Summary: 4 Stars
While this book definitely does not break new ground, it is a fine example of modern Irish literature. The story is moving and beautifully written.
