Book Reviews of The Secrets of Pistoulet, 15th Anniversary Edition

Book Review: a secret to share
Summary: 5 Stars

Secrets of Pistoulet has such a divine simplicity you may at first not recognize the unique depth and richness of spirit. This has become the one must have book for all my friends. In fact, this is one "Secret" I intend to share with anyone near and dear to me. I found this book to be an inspiration for anyone who loves to cook, to think, to be amused and touched. The illustrations perfectly match the mood and peacefulness of the whole experience. You will find yourself coming back to this small wonder over and over.

Book Review: Enchanting...With A Touch of Magic
Summary: 4 Stars

Jane Kolpen's "The Secrets of Pistoulet" is beautifully created with a heart warming tale and creative illustrations. The recipes themselves (although fictional) are bits of charms that sounds too good to be true. The story though would have been more compelling and intimate if the characters and events had more depth to it. It almost seemed too short brief.

This would make a very nice gift book for any occassion. I strongly recommend Kolpen's sequel to this book, "The Legend of the Villa della Luna".

Book Review: How can I thank Jana Kolpen?
Summary: 5 Stars

Having actually met 'Mademoiselle J' on her mystical journey when she was in New Mexico recently, I can promise you, dear reader, that this beautifully conceived and carefully scripted masterpiece will be a treasure to any who receive its blessing. I consider it to be, in addition to a perfectly magical cookbook of enchanting (and workable!) potions and potages holding age-old secrets of healing, the perfect gift to someone with a recent loss--of any kind! An answer to prayers, even. Blessings to you, Jana Kolpen!

Book Review: not that impressed...
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm afraid this was a bit of a disappointment... I didn't find the story particularly original or inspiring, and its presentation through the artwork and production was pretty but not much more than that. The book also has recipes, but they are all fairly simple soups that I could find in other cookbooks, so this does not add to my culinary skills.
I own the Pistoulet pattern of china, and that was the main reason I looked for this book and got it. I do love the china and its whimsical patterns and colors.

Book Review: Don't bother...
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought two copies of the book to give as gifts. Fortunately, my curiousity got the best of me and I carefully opened and read one of them. While the pictures are cute and cheerful, the characters and plot lack depth and substance. (and, yes, I greatly enjoy cooking) Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I found the book to be a waste of both time and money. I am glad to have read the book for the sole purpose of saving myself the embarassment of giving it to anyone I know.
