I have waited a long time - too long - for this book to be written.
Finally, a legitimate journalist, one with the required understanding, perseverance and writing skills has rescued this eventful story from the obscurity the House of Saud has deliberately created. And the rest of the brainlesss lamestream media has passively permitted it to fade into.
Mr. Trofimov has reconstructed, as well as anyone will likely ever be able to, what was obviously a portentous historical event. His account of the seige and attempted takeover of one of civilization's holiest shrines reads almost like a novelistic prequel to Dune. Not only is his account of the Salafists attempt to usurp Saudi power and incite a new Caliphate immensely readable but now, more than ever, entirely in need of being understood.
And appreciated. I salute Mr. Trofimov for the excellence of his accomplishment. It is an invaluable contribution to our understanding of what Islam has been, is, and urges to become. Yes, it was long overdue, but not so late that many more people would not benefit greatly from reading it as soon as possible.
