Book Reviews of The Skin Type SolutionBook Review: Good advice..... Summary: 4 Stars
I heard about this book when it was first released but never spent the money on a purchase. I just happen to see the latest edition in the library and checked it out. To my surprise, her recommendations did make a difference for my skin type (dry, sensitive, non-pigmented, wrinkled) via the 1st day of applying her recommended products. I'm 37 years old and, like any 37 year old, have started to experience the unavoidable wrinkles on the forehead, sunspots from overexposure to the sun, etc. The products she recommends for your skin type will not make you look 10 years younger, but I have to say that if you choose wisely and follow her recommendations, your skin will noticably look and feel at least 3-5 years younger and healthier. I began with her least expensive recommendations and experimented and moved on from there. Your wrinkles, dry skin, etc. will not completely disappear like magic, but you will learn how to properly care for your skin type as well as how to adapt to your skin's changes during the seasons (i.e. more dry skin in the winter, inflammation of the skin in the summer, etc.). This book is a great starting platform with many great recommendations, specifically for us "older" women (or men).:0)
Book Review: Stop blindly trying products, wasting money, and upsetting your skin! Summary: 5 Stars
If you're like me, you think your skin will calm down if you can just figure out the right things to buy. But it's not your fault! This book provided a well-rounded explanation of why my skin behaves the way it does under particular conditions, and i feel certain it will be as useful for others. I was surprised to discover that my skin is actually sensitive (and all this time i described it as simply bitchy.) Especially helpful was the list of "safe" products in every price range, and even ingredients to look for (or avoid). Dr Baumann can #1 Help get your skin under control #2 Teach you how to care for your skin type #3 Give you clues about how your skin will age, and how to address those issues #4 Take you through season changes and flare-ups. I can't really comment on the website, blog, etc as i haven't ussed them. So maybe you actually LIKE the challenge of creating a regimen and arsenal for your skin care needs, and you hope that you'll eventually stumble blindly upon the correct products and plan for your skin? Then by all means continue your quest and don't bother with this book.
Book Review: Good info, but not well organized..... Summary: 4 Stars
I have read over and researched this book quite thoroughly. I will say that the information in it is very good pertaining to the suggestions for each skin type and solutions. I will have to criticize however, that the information is not consistent from one skin type to the next, meaning that once you go from the beginning of the Dry skin types to the end, the last Dry skin type is lacking much of the information that would have been given for the first listed Dry skin type, meaning it is almost incomplete. The info fizzles toward the ends of the Dry and Oily types. This book is difficult to organize in your mind because in order to learn about your skin type, you basically have to read about 8 types in order to get the full information. Heed caution that you do not just read the one section about your type, you will be missing alot of info..... I think that this book was tossed together quickly and almost carelessly in the matter of organization. The information is there, but you must dig deeper!
Book Review: Useful Book Summary: 3 Stars
A good book. While the book appears rather fat a lot of the book is taken up with the test and is then mostly divided into sections for each skin type. So there was less information to get from the book than I'd hoped. I did however find the information there was useful and relevant if not as detailed as I had hoped.
I liked whenever she suggested products they were in a range of price points. So many books like this recommend a "cheaper product" that starts at something like $50.00 this book does recommend a good range from drugstore all the way up to high end, so there are choices for every budget. Or for those of us just wanting to try out a skin care routine before investing big bucks. Often there were recommendations for the lower priced items too which was a nice surprise.
A good book if your current skin care routine doesn't seem to be working, you are sure to get some ideas from this that will help.
Book Review: Easy to read; nice to know recommended purchases Summary: 5 Stars
Ever wonder what facial products would be best for your skin? Spent lots of dollars and questioned whether the products were doing any good? Kind of thought the skin you had in your twenties or thirties was the same as in your forties and fifties? This book helps you determine your skin type based on 8 different criteria and divides skin into 16 different types. From there the dermatologist provides recommended products for all price ranges and a specific regimen. Once you know your skin type, you can use the doc's website for updates on products also. Discovered I was using some products that weren't recommended for my skin type. I've now purchased the new products and have noticed somewhat of an improvement in 3 weeks and hope to continue to see improvements as more weeks pass. I've passed this book around to family and friends who have also made some discoveries. Recommended!
