Book Reviews of The Sneetches and Other Stories

Book Review: Suess at his best
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my three year old son's favorite Suess book by far. There are four stories: The Sneetches, Too Many Daves, The Zax and What Was I Afraid Of? They teach valuable lessons regarding tolerance, prejudice, stubborness and fear. Too Many Daves is downright hilarious. You will find yourself laughing with your child reading the ridiculous names Suess has concocted. A must have for any Suess fan, a great introduction if it's your first.

Book Review: A multi-generational classic!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember my mom reading these stories to me as a little girl and now I have the privilege to read them to my children. I still have our battered and taped up version signed by my mom in 1974. I have decided to purchase a new book and try to preserve the older one. I have two children and hopefully I can pass these to them when it's their turn to hold a tiny one in their lap and read these timeless words.

Book Review: Fighting Ignorance.
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a racist, umm, I mean Star Belly Sneetch, you should buy and read this book. It will simplify your ignorance to the point where even you might be able to understand the implications of your own racism.

If you are not a racist, you should buy this book. It will simplify racists to the point that you will give a hardy chuckle -- and wish that the good old doctor could have lived forever . . . .

Book Review: A favorite forever!
Summary: 5 Stars

When my sister was in pre-school, she made my mom check this book out from the library so many times they probably both could have recited all the stories from memory. The whole family loved it when I gave it to her for Christmas last year. Now I plan to use it as a kindergarten teacher--what a great way to teach about prejudice, accepting each other, compromise... A must for anyone with young children!

Book Review: Sneeches a classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sneeches is one of Dr. Seuss' very best works, revealing how the manipulation of minor distinctions can result in a competitive struggle to be the dominant or hippest people, and how this is exploited by a cynical marketer for profit. It is truly a parable of our time. Teach your children early about the relationship between the stimulation of consumption and the maintenance of social hierarchies.
