Book Review: A Classic

It has been a number of years since I have read this book and I must say that it is remarkable that a book on economics could have such a favorable and lasting impression. When I read it, it was a real page turner. Von Mises makes sense as few others could and although other reviewers are correct in saying that it is not easy reading, not all things need to be easy to be worthwhile. Von Mises went on to write other classics ("Human Action" and "Socialism" for example) and helped make prominent an entire school of thought - Austrian Economics.

By one of the preeminent theorists of the Austrian school of economics, "The Theory of Money and Credit" represents a major contribution to the science of economics. Von Mises examines the value of money, how it can be measured, and the effects of credit and monetary policy at the nation-state level.
