Book Review: Hoffman's style seems to change with each book

I liked the stories and the plot very much, but what's with the writing style? For me the whole book read like a children's book. Short sentences, not enough detail, description or feeling... I don't see how anyone can actually like this type of writing. I enjoyed her writing in her book "The Ice Queen" much much more.

Even though I've thoroughly enjoyed some of her recent works, I feel this is Ms. Hoffman's best book in years! The story is rich, multi-layered, and deeply engaging. Beautiful writing to get lost in telling a tale that you hate to see come to an end. I can always depend on Alice Hoffman to provide good read and something totally unexpected. This novel is really three separate stories occuring decades apart but interwoven in characters and place. In fact, if you put the stories together it is the end, the middle and the beginning. Enjoy a truly "novel" read.Book Review: What has happened to Alice Hoffman?

I was very dissappointed in this book. The plot is a cliche that reminds me of Maeve Binchey's novels. I like Binchey's books put the are in a genre that Hoffman should not compete with. Her previous books were whimsical in ways that were literaly and not soap opera.

I actually cried while reading through parts of the stories. She has so
much emotion in her writing.This book is a MUST read.
