Book Reviews of The Tiger Rising

Book Review: Book Review:The Tiger Rising
Summary: 4 Stars

Tiger Rising, by Kate DiCamillo, is about a girl named Sistine who has just moved to a town in Florida, and meets a boy named Rob. Rob doesn't have to go to school for a while because he has a rash on his leg. One day he is out in the woods and he finds a tiger. The owner of the Kentucky Star Motel, where he is living, pays him to feed the tiger. Rob shows Sistine and she thinks he should let it go. In the end Rob ends up letting his emotions out of his "suitcase" that have been closed up for years. This book is about Rob finding himself. I thought it was a great book. I loved how Kate DiCamillo created the characters. They weren't really described very much, but you could picture them in your head. I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm sure you will to.

Book Review: Poetic Beauty
Summary: 4 Stars

So many of these characters are cursed with ugliness, whether it's inward ugliness like selfishness, anger, or cowardness or whether it's outward ugliness like the main character who's legs are covered in a hideous rash. However, the despite the ugliness of it's characters, all the characters are still vulnerable. The dialogue in this book is raw and filled with poor grammar and Southern slang. The ending is emotional and far from sugar coated. From what I've said here, this book wouldn't seem as beautiful as it really is. The truth is that this book is gorgeous. While reading it, I wasn't sure I'd like it or not... but in the end I realized that the symbolism and honesty of this story made it into a story that flowed like one big beautiful poem.

Book Review: AMAZING!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was my favorite book from 4th-5th grade! I recommend this to people who like "Whoa I wish this were happening to me!!!" or "This sounds so real but you know its fake" kind of feel in a book.Anyway, this book is about a preteen boy named Rob ( who is usually unhappy) who finds a tiger near an abandoned gas station (the gas station part I'm not totally sure about..Hey, give me a break I read this book a year ago!!!)
amd Rob tries to figure out who ownes it and why did they leave it there, and on his journey of Question He meets a girl who actually believes him (no one else did) and asks no questions and just says "Where??". I hope you will read this book and agree that Kate Dicamillo is our Favorite author!!

Book Review: A Tiger Adventure
Summary: 5 Stars

The Tiger Rising is written by Kate DiCamillo. The main characters are Rob, Robert, (dad) Sistine and Willie May. It takes place in Florida at a motel called the Kentucky Star.

It all starts out as Rob is going to school and then two brothers named Billy and Norton Threemonger (two bullies) get on the bus and annoy Rob. Then Sistine shows up at school and makes stuff harder, before ending up being Rob's best friend. They meet a tiger and the adventure begins.

The story is sad. It starts in a pretty interesting way. I recommend it to everyone. If you like this book, you might also want to read Because of Winn-Dixie, which is by the same author.

Book Review: Another winner
Summary: 5 Stars

I generally loath having to read the kid books and trying to have a discussion about plot, characters, theme. DiCamillo is the exception and this one is even more gritty but right on target for the reality that exists in a kid's world. As much as I enjoy them, nothing compares to the joy my kid's get from reading her books and the way the stories make them think on a much deeper level and appreciate the power of a remarkable story. The themes of friendship, bullies, acceptance are common for kid books but the way she introduces them to the questions of freedom and the whole caged bird theme is flawless. Takes a 9 year old to a whole new level. Keep them coming!!!
