Book Reviews of The Tiger RisingBook Review: Eyeing the Tiger Summary: 5 Stars
I share literature with gifted kids in the middle grades and find it difficult to locate material that is both interesting and discussion-worthy. I love a book like this that is simple, yet complex. The ideas put forth do not hit the reader over the head, but rather seep into one's consciousness.
"Tiger" operates on many levels. It's a simple story; it's a story of friendship; it's a tale about grief. It's philosophical; it's practical; it's mystical. All in all, it's a great tool for promoting hearty and healthy discussion.
This is a great little book for people of any age. I enjoyed it and look forward to sharing it with students.

Book Review: Student review: The Tiger Rising Summary: 5 Stars
A book with emotions and friendship, this is a really great story that is powerfully written about a boy named Rob Horton who discovers a tiger. Rob keeps all of his emotions and thoughts inside of a "suitcase." Throughout the story it's interesting how his emotions come out when he meets a unique girl named Sistine Bailey. I like the parts when Rob talks to a wise woman named Willie May, because she always has something interesting or meaningful to say. I would reccommend this book to middle school students because its easy and understandable to read. This is one of the best books I have read so far.

Book Review: The Tiger Rising...disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
My 8 year old son picked this book out because he read "Because of Winn-Dixie" and loved it. He and I both thought Tiger Rising fell short of our expectations. Another thing that really annoyed me is that DiCamillo uses profanity in her telling of this story. Her use of the word "Damn" is extremely inappropriate considering this book is being read by children. "Darn" would have worked equally well. He stopped when he got to that word and question me about it...he didn't want to read it out loud. My husband & I are very disappointed that any profanity, no matter how infrequent, would be in a children's book.
Book Review: The Tiger Rising Summary: 4 Stars
Rob just moved to Florida. He has horrible scabs on his legs and is teased by bullies. One day Rob finds a tiger hidden in the woods by his motel. The same day he meets Sistine Baily. When Sistine sees the tiger, she wants to let him go. When Rob suddenly gets the keys to the tiger's cage, it's up to them to decide what is best for the tiger.
I think that the storyline in this book is interesting, and it engages the reader. The charecters show a mixture of emotions. I enjoyed reading this story by Kate DiCamillo, though I prefer one of her other books I have read, Because Of Winn-Dixie.
