Book Reviews of The Tin StarBook Review: The Tin Star Summary: 5 Stars
When Jamie told his father and brother that he was gay, he expected
yelling and
screaming. What he didn't expect was getting thrown off the Quadruple
J with no job and no where to go. However, Jamie's brother John and
his friend Ethan are supportive and understanding. So Ethan calls
Jamie and offers him a place to stay and a job at his ranch, the Tin
Star. As soon as Jamie arrives, Ethan starts to see him for the man
he has become instead of his best friend's brother.
Jamie has always had a crush on Ethan and working so closely with him
at the ranch is going to be hard when he can't touch him like he wants
to. But Jamie is pleasantly surprised when Ethan tells him he is gay
too. Things are hard for Jamie; the townsfolk and fellow ranch hands
don't approve of gay men, and Jamie's own father is the worst of the
lot. At the same time Jamie and Ethan start a secret affair, the
threats against Jamie are increasing. Now the cowboys have to try and
make a life for themselves amongst the danger and prejudice surrounding
them.
Ethan and Jamie have a really comfortable, passionate relationship
right from the start. These cowboys had me flushed and panting every
time they touched! They are so sexy, yet the chemistry between them is
more than just sizzling sex, they are also really romantic. I just
adore Ethan and Jamie together. They fit each other like a glove. The
Tin Star is a terrific story!

Book Review: Bravo Summary: 5 Stars
This was an excellent M/M erotic romance. Cowboys aren't usually my favorite, as they are so overdone. However, Langley manages to make this story fresh. Jamie and Ethan are a good couple, and the problems they face in their relationship, with family, society, and work, are realistic and often sad. The sex is frequent and steamy (explicit) without being repetitive.
There are a couple of things in the story that stood out as being particularly well done. First, there is Jamie's older brother's relationship with Ethan. John is straight, and has known Ethan was gay for years--and they are still friends. Holy Moly, Batman! It's nice to see a straight male character that isn't bigoted, or has secret homosexual leanings. John is a well-developed secondary character who takes part in the story. Second, I like the fact that Jamie and Ethan have known each other for years. Since Jamie is 11 years younger, their relationship was necessarily different in the past. This makes their new found emotions more poignant. It's not the typical love at first sight--more like seeing possibiltiies that have been right before your eyes the entire time.
Hot sex, touching romance, a plot with some depth--I will definitely read more from this author. Thankfully, The Broken H, the next in this Ranch series, is finally available. And, I love the cover art!
Book Review: Erotic! Some Loose Ends Summary: 4 Stars
The premise of the story was very good and the characters were well-developed.The sex between the cowboys was very sensual and erotic in my opinion. I felt there were some loose ends that prevented it from being a 5 star rating. The hatred of Jacob Killian for his son Jamie because Jamie was a product of an affair with his ex-mistress. This line was not pursued beyond the initial revelation. This could have made the book more interesting; since the author made of point of emphasizing the strong attachment of Jamie to Ethan's aunt Margie and Margie's best friend was Ethan's Mother and also Jamie's stepmother! Get it! There could have been more twists. I thought it would have been a natural step for Jamie to ask Aunt Margie about his birth. Also I couldn't understand why the author didn't have Jamie asking his brother and sister if they new he was not their mother's son. I felt this should have been more fleshed out since it was introduced into the story. Also missing was more of a confrontation between Jacob and Jamie when they met in town. Although it was emphasized in the story that Jacob hated Jamie I felt this thread was also not fleshed out enough. Why introduce something into a story then not follow up on it. In this respect, I was somewhat disappointed feeling a gap in the overall story. However, the tender love and lovemaking between Ethan and Jamie made up for this.
Book Review: Good story, great sex! Summary: 4 Stars
Four and a half stars! I hope this author writes some more books and soon! The two cowboy principal characters are both hot and sexy and fun and their relationship is credible and even more fun. They both have a strong playful side and find their relationship deepened not only by their deep attraction to each other and by their strong, clear and unshakable support for each other in some real crises but also by their "chemistry," much of which consists of having fun with/enjoying being with each other (not to mention hot sex). The crises in the plot were credible and gripping. My only complaint (and the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five) is that there wasn't much conflict BETWEEN the two guys that had to be resolved. The relationship came too easily, though it was partly explained by the fact that the two guys had known each other well (and been attracted to each other) for most of their lives. As a comparison, I gave "Bareback" by Chris Owen five stars and just couldn't quite rate this book as highly as Owen's masterpiece. Still, this is a GREAT read: lots of fun, hot sex, moving romance, several good characters (though the villains were all two dimensional) and a gripping plot. Highly recommended!
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not usually a fan of cowboy stories. In fact up until this point Brokeback Mountain is the only one I've truly enjoyed. J.L Langley made me a fan however with this, the story of Jamie and Ethan.
Langley managed to find a balance between plot and erotica in this romantic tale about small town Texas Cowboys. Actually Romantic may not be the right term...the chemistry between these two characters is unmistakable from the very first time they set eyes on each other; and this story is about how they beat the odds to be together. By no means is this your typical candlelit dinners romance.
I don't think there was much not to like about this story. I loved the friendship between John and Ethan. It was refreshing to see a close bond between the two despite Ethan's sexual orientation. I also liked how Jamie and Ethan's relationship unfolded, and how they were willing to fight to keep what they had despite the obstacles thrown in there way.
A wonderful story for anyone who loves m/m romances/erotica. I highly reccommend The Tin Star. I give J.L Langley an A for perfect story execution and brilliant Characterization. I won't soon forget Jamie and Ethan.
