Book Review: Excellent book on how vitamin D is crucial for health!!

I was first interested in this book when I had a blood test done recently and my doctor told me I was severely deficient in vitamin d (my levels were 14ng/ml) normal levels are between 60 and 80. I suffer from depression so anything that would help my body to be more healthy was worth looking into.

I got much more from this book than I anticipated.
This book gives a very easy plan on how to reverse your vitamin d deficiency through diet (keeping the acidity to a minimum) and provides details of how much sun you should have weekly and supplements to build your your vitamin d levels back to normal. Diet is extremely important which he describes because you can be getting alot of vitamin d but if your diet is acidic (eating too much meat,cheese, refined sugar and sweeteners), minerals such as magnesium,calcium and potassium are depleted and your vitamin d won't be used propely

It also details many success cases of a wide variety of different physical ailments and how increasing vitamin d and with the proper diet you can completely eliminate them. I was particularly interested in the relationship between high vitamin d levels and optimimum serotonin production to prevent depression

I highly reccommend anyone deficient in vitamin d or anyone who rarely gets any sun to read this and implement some if not all the reccomendations he makes.For those who don't know we NEED sun exposure on our skin which allows us to create vitamin d in our bodies.We only get a small amount from it in food so sun exposure is crucial!!.

My plan on building my vitamin d stores over the next 4-5 months is as follows:

1. 30 minutes everyday sun in tshirt and shorts between 10am-2 pm (no sunscreen!)
2. natural vitamin d supplements 2000 iu/day (although he suggests more than this)
3 Include foods whenever possible such as shiitake mushrooms and fish which are very high in vitamin d (I learned this online and not throught the book)
4. Maintain a neutral diet with low acidity

Also here are some simple changes you can make to remove some of the acidic foods from your diet which I have learned reading online and have incorporated

1. apple cidar vinegar(alkaline)instead of red wine vinegar (acidic)
2. mineral water (alkaline) instead of tap water
3. sea salt (alkaline) instead of refined salt (acidic)
4. stevia(alkaline) instead of splenda,artificial sweeteners(extremely acidic)
5. green tea (alkaline) over coffee(acidic)

I would say the only thing I wasn't completely satisfied with this book was the generalization of the alkaline and acidic foods and it perhaps could have done a better job with a more detailed list on foods with this.It would have been great if he explained how we could make those simple changes that I just mentioned above like changing sea salt for refined salt.

Otherwise this is a great book and you will learn why sun exposure and the right diet for vitamin d production is CRUCIAL for health..

This is an amazing book.

I have bought and given away many copies of this book (maybe 15).

Why do people get the flu and colds in the Winter ? And why do people up North have higher rates of cancer of all types (except for melanoma) ? Wouldn't you know that it is the result of a weakened immune system ? And wouldn't you guess that it was a lack of sun exposure (and deficiency of vitamin D) ?

I am now taking around 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day (during the Winter). Be sure to take aitamin A with vitamin D, since A and D work togeter. A lot of vitamin D can cause a deficiency of vitamin A (and visa-versa). So be sure to take both at the same time. I recommend "A and D" from 'The Vitamin Shoppe'. I also recommend vitamin D3 (2,000 IU) from 'The Vitamin Shoppe'.

I also recommend that you use a UV sensor to ensure that you get the correct amount of sun. I highly recomment the "Chaney Instrument UV Skincare Sensor". I have bought around 30 of them and am giving them to friends and neighbors. Check out my review on it.

This book also led me to research magnesium. As a result I bought three books on magnesium ("The Magnesium Miracle", "The Magnesium Solution", and "The Magnesium Factor"). I was so impressed with these books that I bought around 15 copies of each and am giving them to friends.

And you will lose minerals if you sweat it out in the sun. So if you sweat and end up with cramps, I recomment that you take magnesium supplements. The most absorble type is Magnesium Taurate (available from 'The Vitamin Shoppe'). I also use Magnesium Oil spray on my legs. It is not really an oil, but it feels like oil and is absorbed through the skin in 30 minutes. Magnesium Oil spray is available through an Amazon 'reseller'.

I am going to order this book today, just for the extra information. I have been reading up on Vitamin D for a long time in that my mother has osetoporosis, and I have osteopenia (10 years). I only recently started to up my Vitamin D intake. I live in Arizona, I should be getting plenty of D, however I DO use sunscreen, and that does affect your absorption.

My last Bone density, was not what I had hoped, and I decided to up the D more. From 2,000 to 6,000 a day.

The thing I am understand from reading the reviews here, is WHY my back pain is gone, and why my sciatica is gone, and why I hardly have any problems with either knee anymore...I really do believe it is the D.

BTW, the other thing I have seen happen, is my blood pressure has come down to NORMAL since on more vitamin D. Before I was very frustrated about it, and did not want to take medication for it. No one seems to believe me when I tell them this...but it is true. I have done nothing else....

Hope to continue to see BIG results. Just amazes me...and I have told alot of folk about it, and I am saying it now, and MARK MY WORD.....I DO BELIEVE THIS VITAMIN WILL BE THE NEXT CURE ALL FOR MANY MANY PROBLEMS with our health!!! I have NO doubts!

I can't say enough about this book and others like it. It may not be a cure all for everything but we must re-address our notions on good health and our nutrional deficiencies. I am an R.N. and fitness trainer in the NW and found my blood pressure spiking 160/100 during the winter month's. (the book will explain why) Was put on blood pressure medication. My Dr. was smart enough to take my Vit. D levels and found it was extremely low. He started me on Vit. D(3) at 2000 units a day. my pressure dropped to an acceptable level of 130/80 I am now on 4,000 to 5,000 (there is a prescription form of 50,000 yes, not a misprint 50,000 units once a week.) for the past 6 month's and my pressure is at 120/62. I am off all other BP meds. I am doing more reseach on the Vit. D connection to good health. look up Dr. Hector de Luca of UW Madison Wis. Vit. D researcher for more info. My own medical issues motivated me to take action and found a lot on nutritional deficiencies in my own diet. the two big ones Vit. D and Magnesium good luck with your quest to better health.

WHO WROTE THIS BOOK AND THE WEALTH OF INFORMATION IT HAS BROUGHT TO MANY PEOPLE WITH SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES SUCH AS FIBROMYALGIA, CHRONIC FATIGUE,DEPRESSION,DIABETIS~EVEN OBESITY! IF ALL THINGS ARE FOLLOWED~ACID FREE DIET~ VITAMIN D SUPPLEMENTATION AND EXERCISE~IT WORKS!!!!! BETWEEN OUR DIETS~BEING AT OUR JOBS AT LEAST 5 DAYS A WEEK INSIDE WITH ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING~USING SUNSCREEN ALL THE TIME:IS IT A WONDER WE ARE LOW ON VITAMIN D!!!
