Book Reviews of The Wandmaker's Guidebook

Book Review: 68-yo Harry Potter fan
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this book for Christmas, and I absolutely love it! Finding the wand in the pull-out drawer was a delightful surprise. I don't know if a 4-8 yo child can fully appreciate the language and references, especially in the handwritten notes that can be found in the margins and tucked between paragraphs. The constellation charts were well-done, I thought, and the entire book, though it is supposed to look old, is well made. The only mistake I noticed was in the astrological chart design on the front cover: Gemini is placed before Taurus, which is incorrect. My daughter says that only I would notice something like that.

Book Review: Wow, everybody else liked this, eh?
Summary: 2 Stars

My daughter really thought she would enjoy this book/kit, but it turned out to be a disappointment. The outer part of the wand (it screws together, leaving a little compartment on the inside for one's chosen magic doohickies) cracked in the process of screwing it onto the inner part, which really bummed her out. The instructions and so forth were entertaining & interesting, but honestly not for very long - the whole experience was over (and not very satisfyingly) in a few short hours. It's not horrifyingly expensive, so I guess the utility of it is in range, but I wouldn't buy one as a gift or anything.

Book Review: Disgusted
Summary: 1 Stars

I ordered this book on July 9th, it is now Aug. 10th and there is no sign of it. Futhermore, IMMEDIATELY following my purchase, my credit card was used to purchase any number of items over a period of 2 days all over Europe. The secure server is not secure and my card had to be cancelled. In effect, one book cost me $2,000.00 I am not impressed. There was also no way to contact Amazon on the website for this issue - no simple customer service address or phone number, just reviews or phishing info. I will not purchase through Amazon again.

Book Review: Guide to Wand Mmaking
Summary: 5 Stars

The kids thought the book had interesting facts and LOVED making the "Harry Potter" type wands to play with. The Wands were really neat, but on the fragile side. Make sure they don't over tighten them when screwing the two ends together. My son broke his that way and both of them have lost pieces of it just by "casting their spells". The good side of it is that they glue well with wood glue and they were half the price here than Borders. I was able to buy both kids a book and still saved $4! I hope this helps.

Book Review: The Genius of The "ology" Books--So Entertaining For All Ages
Summary: 5 Stars

The whole series of "ology" books, such as Wizardology, which The Wandmaker Guidebook is just one, is a marvelous idea. I am by no means a child anymore but am fascinated by children's and young adult books. Whoever came up with the concepts of such books is a literal genius...they are so much fun to read and explore as each page has some little hidden treasure to find....And with The Wandmaker, one even gets their own wand! No need to go to Diagon Alley to Ollivander's!
