Book Reviews of The War After Armageddon

Book Review: Ralp is a Master Military Storyteller
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first read of LTC Peters and I'm glad I did. His knowledge of battlefield ops is excellent. Even better is his conveying what happens in a commander's head dealing with the situation on the ground, possible future moves by his and opposing forces, all while dealing with the mundane of military leadership and the politics of higher ups.

I'd give it five stars but the MOBIC concept made me uncomfortable. In today's America it's easy to vilify "born agains" or fundamentalist christians. While I'm just an average Lutheran, it bothers me a little that an accomplished author and military mind such as LTC Peters would use this as a central plot concept. It was just a book however and it'd be great if he'd write a sequel.

Book Review: Too Much Military Jargon
Summary: 2 Stars

This is a hard read unless you're career military. The technical terminology and acronyms drove me crazy and made it very difficult to follow. Peters would write at an understanbable level at times but then dive deep into the military jargon for 10-15 pages and I was lost. There were times when Peters addressed interesting philosophical and theological thoughts, ironies and contradictions in religious beliefs. This I found interesting. He tries to use the Clancy and Flynn methods of jumping between 5 parallel stories but for some reason, not found in other books that used this, I just got lost because I couldn't remember where the last episode left off. Bottom line, this is not a page turner. It is a very diffiuclt read.

Book Review: Awesome book with good warnings...
Summary: 5 Stars

I dont understand how people can say this book doesnt have a plot? It not only has a plot, and damn good one, it has MANY twists. If you like Clancy and Harold Coyle then you will love this book.

I do not understand why some reviewers think this books premise is so far out of possibilities. If we do not get off our butts and get educated on our politicians and problems then it is a very likely scenario. But dont want to turn political, this book is awesome and was one of the best books I have listened to. I got the audible version. Wish his other books were available in audible.

Book Review: Great Military Book, Interesting Commentary on Politics
Summary: 4 Stars

The book is well-reviewed here. It is a good book of military strategy, tactics, and honor. It's a little choppy in some places and a bit over-bearing in others, but by the end I was fully engaged.

The thought of a radical group taking over the reins of the US federal government is not that far-fetched. In this book it was a takeover by fundamentalist Christains, but several other groups in their place. The main theme, of maintaining one's honor and duty to the country, is well emphasized. It is one that needs reinforcing, not in the military as much as throughout society, today.

Book Review: Ralph Peters Best's himself.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a fan of Ralph Peters. His most recent release, "The War After Armageddon," is Ralph's best fictional literary achievement to date. All his work is exceptional with "Red Army" being my previous Ralph Peters favorite, that is until now. This novel brings to bear a frightening yet very possible reality - the terrorist nuclear threat, and then takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions that are engulfed in action and intrigue. Simply put, "The War After Armageddon" is spell binding and wholly believable.
