Book Reviews of The Wednesday LettersBook Review: It could have been great... Summary: 1 Stars
The premise to the book was interesting and the development of the book was also quite well done. The ending was disappointing causing me to feel that the book was a waste of time. I pick up a book based on what plot descriptions and bits read from the book rather than relying on any newspaper review or other reviews. Actually, I didn't realize it was on a 'best sellers' list or so highly rated here online. I'm sure this book will be/is an fantastic read for some, but I felt it was definitely not up to the hype it receives. I'm not sure I'd race to other books by the author, but who knows?
Book Review: Romantic, Sentimental Fluff... In a Good Way Summary: 4 Stars
Despite sticky sweet sentimentality blatantly oozing from each page, I fell in love with this romantic and bittersweet book. This book is simply...really good, in a way I didn't expect. More wholesome than many, and although characters and plot were quite predictable, it all fit together nicely. Epilogue letter at the end sealed the deal for me- a tearjerker for all the romantics out there. Know what you're picking up before you start it though.. this isn't an award winner and will never be a classic, but it's nice and good and light and a really great escape.
Book Review: A wonderful read that leaves you thinking of your own marriage Summary: 5 Stars
I just picked this book up I had never read anything of this author and I wanted a good book. Well I got it. This is just wonderfully written. A tale of life marriage having children with doing things to keep their love on the forfront. Children that were typical children. Even though not a mystery toward the end things begin to happen that was a mystery. It made me think of things I could do to keep our marriage alive and when we are gone Our children could relate to our good times hard times wrongs and rights.
I highly recommend this book.
Book Review: Write the Wednesday Letters, don't read them Summary: 2 Stars
Clunkily written, with predictable yet logically implausible plot twists, wooden characterization, and stilted dialogue. The concept of the Wednesday letters - a man writes a letter to his wife every Wednesday throughout their marriage, and their children discover their inner lives and family secrets through those letters - is a lovely and romantic idea, but could have been suggested in one sentence rather than through this achingly contrived plot. Save the time you would have spent reading this book and write your partner a letter instead.
Book Review: A nice book and easy reading but lacking depth Summary: 3 Stars
This started out as a great love story. Like many of you I was dreaming of getting my own Wednesday Letters. But there were too many holes in the story. What was the point of Nathan and there was no depth to the love story of Malcolm and Rain. The end turned too preachy with everyone being saved by the love of Jack and Laurel. I couldn't wait to get to the epilogue, a letter in an envelope neatly tucked on the back cover. It was not the warm and fuzzy feeling I was hoping for.
