Book Reviews of Third Degree: A Novel

Book Review: not motivated to read Greg Iles again
Summary: 2 Stars

I read Third Degree because a coworker shoved it into my hands. It was interesting enough to read without falling asleep, but the more I read, the more stupid the characters got. They're all frivolous and self-absorbed. The whole story was very far-fetched. It might make a good Lifetime movie some day. I will admit that for a story to be that bad, the ending was actually quite good. However, this was my first Greg Iles book. I've heard good things about Devil's Punchbowl. I will try that, but if it's just as bad, I'm sorry Mr. Iles but never again.

Book Review: Suspensful book - I finished it in less than a week because I was hooked.
Summary: 4 Stars

I've read two Greg Iles books - this one and "True Evil." "Third Degree" is the better one by far. I've read and enjoyed all of James Paterson's suspense/thriller novels and when I ran out of options, I chose Greg Iles. I fell in love with this book right from the beginning. I might even say I like "Third Degree" better than James Patterson's titles, but that's probably because I've read too many Patterson books and I'm tired of them. I was able to connect to Laurel in Third Degree and I loved all of the other characters.

Book Review: Really disliked this book
Summary: 1 Stars

Not up to Iles standards..really really disliked this book and all it was about.
Did anyone else find the ending inane? Worried about what a child is going to think about his dead father if he committed suicide - as opposed to watching that father kill several people in front of him and beating on his mother. Felt like I was being asked to forgive the wife and lover their lack of morals but to accept the deaths of others easily because of their lack of same?? Whole thing was just tawdry.

Book Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I must say that I'm surprised at the negative reviews for this book. This is my first foray into Iles' work, though, so perhaps the comments about this being uncharacteristic of his writing mean that I will love his other works even more. Who knows.

As for this book, I found it to be engaging, exciting, and just twisty enough to keep me on my toes without getting confusing. I couldn't put it down! I look forward to checking out more of Iles' work.

Book Review: A Waste of $9.95
Summary: 1 Stars

I took three good books on vacation. Too good, I guess, because I read them faster than anticipated and needed a fourth book for the last few days. I'd read a few of Iles' books so I figured I couldn't go wrong. But I certainly did. The plot was ridiculous, especially since everything seemed to be crammed into one day. Overwriting and lots and lots of cliches weren't helpful, either.

He certainly can do better.
