Book Reviews of Thirteen

Book Review: Very cool, hard to put down.
Summary: 5 Stars

Things I liked about the book:

Characters - the depth was enough to get you involved and interested in the 2 main characters, maybe a bit much though.

Theme - hunting down a cannibalistic sociopath who's been genetically enhanced? sure, I want to see how that goes, and enjoyed the hunt and how it evolved/twists as it went on.

Atmosphere - I thought the future world envisioned here was scarily possible, with Jesusland sounding a bit too likely to become reality.

Book Review: Decidedly flawed and wonderful for it.
Summary: 3 Stars

Dystopian Sci-fi meets Political Commentary in the park. They hit it off and begin wandering the halls of art gallery violence, conflicted romance, and strangely action hero-esque main characters. Central characters rail against the perceived parameters of their culture, whilst simultaneously supporting them with their actions, providing an almost too real version of the near future.

Book Review: One of Morgan's Best
Summary: 4 Stars

Morgan continues on a role with a complex and intricately plotted tale where tech and politics mesh wonderfully. I'm not a sci fi addict and Morgan is one of the few folks I read. His vision of a future divided states of America is too damned dead-on these days. Ranks up there with Altered Carbon and Company...Can be read by itself without a sci fi fascination...

Book Review: Not His Best
Summary: 2 Stars

Morgan fans be aware! This is his least interesting work. It is not in the league of Altered Carbon or Market Forces. The concept of the Thirteen is fascinating, but long stretches of flat dialogue and boring meditations make for a lack of the energy that is present in his earlier works.

Book Review: Drawn out and a tad boring
Summary: 2 Stars

I've liked the authors previous books, but found myself disappointed with Thirteen. It dragged on for way too long and I found myself having to struggle to finish it. Not enough action, and the same conversations about being a "13" rehashed over and over again.
