Book Review: Too much going on

I don't even know where to begin discussing this book! There is Hari, a tiger shape-shifter who just happens to be cursed so he can't shift anymore, is a slave to whoever owns his box and has Magi, the guy who cursed him, after him for reasons unknown. Then there is Dela, she has not one but two groups of people trying to kill her and she has magic powers that let her control metal. Along for the ride are a plethora of side characters with a broad range of psi powers, and shifter abilities. The only thing everybody (but the villains) seem to have on common is they are willing to selflessly sacrifice themselves to save Dela's life.
Basically this book is sweet, stupid, entertaining, ridiculous, violent and fun, oh and vomitous (there are 5 or 6 times this happened I can recall). There is tons going on, way too much in my mind, and after the first half of the book there is very very little in the way of character development and there is no history at all about Dela's character. If you are someone who loves a good action movie that doesn't require too much brain power and aren't going to spend any time after the fact picking apart plot wholes then this is for you. Personally I found too many unanswered questions, coincidences and strange twists of logic for this to be a success.
I enjoyed parts of this book, but often times it seemed like a series of exciting high action moments strung together by boring lagging moments. Also the first half in China has a totally different feel than what happens once they get back to America, with the first half being the beginning of a fairly conventional romance and the second half a full out action/thriller with a total halt to just about all character development and reason.
There are a few points that took my suspension bridge of disbelief and snapped it, the biggest being the issue with Hari coming out of the box. Once he's out he can't go back and then be brought out again? Why in the world would the woman sell Hari to Dela in the first place if we are supposed to believe no one ever did anything nice to him? Why did she do it? How is it possible no one ever was nice to him before? And why the heck was Dela on vacation alone in China anyway?
In the end the puzzle pieces just fit together too perfectly for me.

NOTE: There a brief sex scene between Dela and Hari while he is shifted into tiger form. It isn't at all graphic (none of the sex scenes are) but just a warning to those who would be really turned off by that.
