Book Review: sorry Artie just didn't get it
Summary: 2 Stars

Must admit I was disappointed by the book in general. Some funny moments and enjoyed Artie's softer side when talking about his family but one thing was a miss for me.
When Artie started on with the pills then onto the Heroin downward spiral it was all over the pressure of 5 weeks worth of work in the summer (stern show and beer league) He was whining about 18 hour days and so on and the thought in the months ahead led him down the wrong path again. Well his father worked his bollocks off to make a go of it for his family and Artie idolized the man, so why would a few weeks of double shifts be responsible for this downward spiral? Surely he would have followed in his hero's footsteps by getting his head down and just get on with it? Or is it more that he realized he doesn't have his fathers' work ethic and that broke him inside?
Not sure but didn't get that!! Shame because I think Artie is a funny guy with a belly load of problems.
Don't buy this book, you'll not need to reference it in the future, borrow from a friend.

Book Review: A must read for any Artie or Howard fan!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's really quite simple to review this book in a single word "Revealing". When you hear Artie on the Stern show you immediately recognize his quick wit and hilarious commentary that he brings to the show. People feel two ways about Artie - disgusted or sympathetic, there is NO middle ground. This book provides an insight to what is behind this man. Yes, he comes off as rough or brash or harsh - but that is his schtick. Artie is probably one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. No, I have never met the man, but you can read into his persona and realize he is a decent and caring guy who just happened to fall into some really bad habits. The book will explain how he evolved and will give you a better understanding of what Artie is all about.

I absolutely loved the book - it will not win a Pulitzer and Artie will not be a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, but he is quite an endearing person - and that is what is really important.

Enjoy the book...

Mike

Book Review: Funny, but he is a sad and ugly person
Summary: 2 Stars

I laughed out loud- at him not with him, which is his exact tactic to make money off you, and has been all his life.
The memoir was a contradiction in good and evil, in self pity and remorse.

Artie tells secrets about his life, talks about his family, his career, his jail stints, his drug and alcohol stints, his rehab stints, his life of crime, detestful beahvior and his success in comedy despite his unbecoming character, which seems rather unjustified.

I enjoyed the book a little more than 'it was ok', but felt bad for buying it, as it will likely fund his next self-confessed inevitable coke or heroin binge.
I felt like an enabler...or someone who just found out they did something wrong and dirty. The book details his filthy life and kinda drags you with it.

The books is a curious walk down a sad, spirit poor but ridiculously cashed-up, self indulgent narcissists lane. Don't buy retail, wait until its really cheap on amazon, or your local library gets a copy.

Book Review: Audible PAIN!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been a Stern fan for about 20 Years. Listen to him every day during my 1 hour commute to work. I am a fan of Arty too. I figured it would be a great idea to buy Arty's Book on CD's for this trip during the Stern show holiday vacation.
My opininion?.....Firstly, you have to get passed the HORRIBLE Narators for the book. It is so painful to listen to you are resisting yourself to not turn it off. The simple fact of having to continue, similar to not beeing able to look away from a car reck, brings you through Arty's pathetic stories. Secondly, it is his unbelievable honesty that got me to the end of the CDs. Much of the stories have been played on Stern and are entertaining. Story after story it gets very monotonous and depressing. Knowing what I know now, find someone that has listened to the cd's and borrow from them. Dont waste your money! Its your high expectation that is enticing you to purchase the book/cds. Resist the urge, you will be disapointed if you spend the money.

Book Review: Waste of Paper
Summary: 1 Stars

I like the Stern show, I thought Artie was a pretty funny guy, but I can't believe what a waste of money this book was. If you listened to the show even minimally over the past couple of years you have heard nearly everything in this book. If it wasn't covered in the radio then he used it as material on Letterman or Kimmel. As a result, there is very little here to read and what is actually somewhat new isn't very funny. Additionally, anything new was covered on the show in the time since the book has come out.

Some people may say it's not supposed to be funny, it's the story of an addict. Well, I could understand that, but it has zero redeeming qualities. Rather, it exemplifies how selfish a person Lange is and comes across as a rushed, poorly written, cash grab.

I wish I could get my money back from buying this piece of garbage, but in the event he did actually produce some new material this decade I still might be tempted to buy it.
