Book Review: When A Man Loves A Woman

Though tried and tested, Hosea Bush comes through with agape love for Jasmine. Too Little, Too Late is a page turner. There has been a definite change in Jasmine Larson Bush. Growth, maturity, and genuine love is evident. You can see that the nurturing and love given to her by Hosea has paid off, until his past shows up in the form of Natasia Redding, who is Jasmine taken to another level. Natasia's self-assurance, arrogance, and manipulation almost gets her what she wants, Hosea. Even though Jasmine has to fight in the flesh and spirit, she displays a definite will to keep the man she loves and for their marriage to survive. It is ironic how Mae France will play a pivotal role and this is because of the love and concern given to her by Hosea and Jasmine.
The Bush's trek to Los Angeles for three months, draws Brian and Alexis Lewis, who are having their own issues, into this story of love, commitment and marriage. When a man loves a woman, he will go to great extremes to make sure that nothing threatens or destroys that love. Brian's need to seek help for his addiction is an indication that he no longer desires to live his former life that threatened to destroy his happiness and marriage to Alexis. And Alexis inability to forget Brian's transgression will cost them dearly. Brian's weakness to the addiction is revealed when pressures mount from a visit by Jasmine and their inability to resist temptation is manifested when they are faced with this incredible opportunity to thwart weakness. However, Brian's ability to resist temptation in the form of Natasia, again at a very weak time for him, is evident that he does love his wife and want the happy times once again. I love the author's way of leaving the door open with any number of possibilities and I look forward to hearing more from Alexis and Brian.
I marveled at the concern shown by Hosea for Alexis, and the love for Jacqueline is an indication of his unselfishness, his real nature, and true character as a Man of God. Even though, Jasmine could not understand this, it is a credit to the training and upbringing Hosea received from his father, Rev. Bush who provides sound conusel to both Jasmine and Hosea, along with surprise of all surprises, words fo wisdom from Mae France. Now Hosea has to face his demons as well, in terms of his relationship with Natasia, but real to commitment or God's timing, I think a bit of both, he prevails.
True love is so evident in this book and to see its demise and then to see it flourish is absolutely thrilling. Giving up is hard to do when you truly love someone and I don't think Jasmine, Hosea, Brian or Alexis has given up on love. Truth prevails.
Summary of Too Little, Too Late: A Novel
Jasmine Larson Bush returns to her devious ways in this tale of two marriages -- each threatened by lies and betrayal.She took marriage vows to be honest and true, but Jasmine's still hiding secrets to keep her husband, Minister Hosea Bush, by her side. When Hosea's ex-fiancée, Natasia, suddenly appears in New York, Jasmine knows it's not a coincidence. A former manstealer herself, Jasmine is very aware of Natasia's motives -- even if Hosea is not.
Complicating Jasmine's life is the secret she's kept from her baby's daddy. Luckily for her, Brian Lewis has problems of his own. His wife, Alexis, is convinced he's cheating on her -- but Brian's real betrayal is much worse. Revealing the truth to his wife could lead him back to the biggest mistake of his life...Jasmine.
Two marriages are in desperate jeopardy. Will Jasmine be able to scheme to save her own? Or will she have to choose between protecting her past and compromising her future? Even if Jasmine and Brian find the courage to stop the lies, it may be too little, too late....
