You have got to read this captivating, true story of a family's past transgressions revealing a serial killer during the great depression, incest and child abuse, lies and betrayals and domestic violence buried for decades! A person would have to be haunted by such a terrible experience at such an early age, yet, for 48 years, Rozetta Mowery has been discovering the truth about her mother's murder and it was just the beginning of her voyage of discovery. Her story is riveting and the hidden secrets are just a shocking for current readers today as they were for the residents of 3 counties in Southeast Tennessee.
I have gotten to know Rozetta Mowery and she is an inspiration to me. Her writing is profound and provoking and very forthright. We have all wondered about our roots at times. No person and no family is devoid of skeletons that have been lingering in your family closet. Her mother's horrible death at the hands of her father always haunted her. She went on a mental and physical journey to find out just why it all happened and came to the conclusion that there is a link between the past of our ancestors and the people with whom we live everyday. Such strongholds must be broken by the power of God and Rozetta Mowery allows us to take that voyage of discovering why her father murdered her mother with her.
Anyone who can endure such a trial of one's whole life and come out of it calling herself Rosie, that story absolutely deserves my absolute attention. Everyone who loves life and who seeks to bind up the wounds, inflicted by broken hearts and shattered lives, should read this book. Read it as a story of reflection and healing, but read it, most of all, as a tribute to the author, to thank her for her excellent example of what faith and forgiveness can do.
I can relate to Rozetta Mowery, in one way, though I have never endured such a difficult moment in my life. Yet, I think she found the same thing I discovered that revolutionized my personal world. She has learned of the power of forgiveness, such a great achievement!
