Book Review: save the money and the time

I used to read all the Westerns. I have most of the old editions of L' Amour, Gray, some of Brand's and others. Then I just got tired of reading the same story book after book, just changed here and there maybe with a new location and got busy with the ranch when we added more land.
Just in the last two weeks I read the first two westerns I have read in years. One was new and different and maybe one of the better ones I have read. It got me excited about reading again, so I got the second one. That second book was this book, Trail Hand.
I am very disappointed. This book seemed like just another same old western story. I did not like the writing either. It was tough to follow. Had to reread sentences many times. I almost did not finish the book. Only reason I did is that I have never not finished one. There were many times when different characters are talking, and I couldn't follow who is talking to who about what without reading it three times. Then there is lots of just plain jumbled writing. Here is just one from page 90:
"You know as well as I do that Zeke once saved my life, and, since I was the one who pulled you out of the Canadian that time back in Sixty-One, well, I guess that means you sort of owe him, too."
The bigger print did not undo bad sentences, confusing conversations and jumbled words throughout the book. I am no writer, but this is my opinion after having read a lot of these types of books. I should have done that preview look inside the book thing. This type of writing starts at the beginning and carries all the way through. I should have taken the time and I would have caught it in the first few pages and saved 7 bucks. That's my fault. One of the other reviewers here said this is an old time B Western. That is what it is, along with hundreds of others like it, though most of them written better.
I noticed the author put a review here for himself and called himself a L' Amour or Brand. Mr. author, I am sure you worked hard on this book. You are most likely a nice enough fella, and I would not know you if I fell over you. But you are not either of those writers by a long shot. I would not recommend this book to anyone at all.
Summary of Trail Hand: A Western Story (Leisure Western)
Owen Burke just wanted a little extra money. He had no idea he'd also be getting a heap of trouble when he signed on to guide a horse drive from Mexico to California. First he was bushwhacked by a bunch of banditos who stole his mount. Worse, they then drove off the rest of the herd, and because they had Owen's horse, the ramrod thinks Owen purposely led his group into a trap. Alone and on foot, he has no choice but to go after the thieves and prove his innocence--if the ramrod and his gang don't kill him first.Historical Books
