Book Reviews of Tripwire (Jack Reacher, No. 3)Book Review: A real page turner Summary: 1 Stars
A real page turner...I couldn't flip through the pages fast enough to get it over with. Tripwire was my first introduction to Jack Reacher, and I don't think we will be getting to know each other better. The mystery wasn't very mysterious and the romance was dull, cliqued, and filled with sophomoric angst.
The weak mystery is covered over with an overly complicated plot and hodgepodge of fluff characters. The two characters that hold any promise of being interesting, Tony and Marlin Stone, are either ignored or given up on in the last several chapters. The only real surprise comes in the end when we find out that Reacher is really Superman and his only weak spot is his head.
Book Review: Avenging a War Crime Summary: 3 Stars
Like many, I am going back and now reading the entire Jack Reacher series. This third entry's story was interesting as it stretches back to the Vietnam War. The novel has two plot lines that take time to come together with the Reacher plot line somewhat ho-hum. The other one introduces a loathsome villain who is more engaging than Reacher. I recently read Lost Soldiers by James Webb which was interesting as both books deal with the repatriation of soldier's remains from Vietnam. Reacher is a little neutered and somewhat domesticated in this outing. Still he remains a potent lead character and Child has created a fun formula.
Book Review: REACHER - Bigger Than Life Summary: 4 Stars
In KILLING FLOOR I said I thought Jack Reacher was too large, to good to believe, but I would try again. Now this book TRIPWIRE is the third Jack Reacher book for me. And I am hooked and glad there are many more to come. Have the next to on my pocket list of book to buy.
In this book Jack is living in Key West (wish we spent more time there, love the town) but he is pulled into a murder mystery that brings him to NYC. I liked the book, the plot, the new characters, and surprising most reviewers here, I think it is my favorite so far.
Try the Jack Reacher books, interesting character in great easy reads.
Book Review: Lots of questions for Reacher Summary: 4 Stars
I think this was the best book in the series so far. Reacher finds himself challenged not only by a mystery, but by some changes in his personal life. The mystery is, what happened to Victor Hobie? Did he die in Vietnam? If not, why hasn't he contacted his bereaved family? If so, who's using his name to terrorize businessmen in New York? Along the way, Reacher encounters a blast from the past that may make him change his drifting ways. But if he's not a drifter, will he be the same Jack Reacher? Lots of great suspense here, and an ending that leaves you wondering what's next for our mysterious hero.
Book Review: Strained Reacher Summary: 3 Stars
Another typical Reacher with lots of action, love interest, evil and adventure. This one, however, lacks credibility to an even greater extent than most of the other Reachers. For example, two NYPD officers (from a radio car) lose their lives because they go on an investigation without notifying dispatch of where they are or what case they're working on. Because of this, I found that I ran out of willing suspension of disbelief. I'd skip this one or maybe read it if you've read all the others at least once.
