Book Reviews of True Detectives: A NovelBook Review: Went in wrong direction *spoilers* Summary: 3 Stars
I like the new characters Moses and Aaron despite their cutesy, matching names and I didn't have a problem with the story per se. What bothered me was that it was set up as the mystery of what happened to Caitlin Frostig, but because for some reason nobody bothered to interview her boyfriend right at the very beginning, the storyline spun off into an entirely different direction. I would have rather seen Caitlin Frostig's disappearance as legit and the focus of the book, or have her whole situation dropped. I felt like this was lazy writing and the the resolution to her story a total cop-out.
I agree with another reviewer here that sometimes I had to reread sentences to figure out what Kellerman was trying to say.
Book Review: Not one of the best... but interesting Summary: 3 Stars
This work is not one of Kellerman's best works. I enjoyed the dynamic between the brothers and the constant struggle they had to love each other.
Moses is a dedicated cop, hard working and serious. Aaron is a suave detective who goads his brother with his sucesses.
They both pair up to work on a missing person case, and as they go through the case, they open more doors and find more rabbit trails.
This one was more forced than some of his other works.
His earliest works were much more dynamic and suspenseful.
I did enjoy the ending to this one and the final ending to the torcherd souls in the story.
Book Review: Tired, Jonathan? Summary: 1 Stars
Well, the Odd Brothers, introduced in "Bones", manage to gain the spotlight in this one, or should I say, "flashlight", for they certainly don't make Kellerman shine! PLEASE, Jonathan, give us one of the good vintage Alex Delaware's we so eagerly await, then you can write the sequel to this, which would include the boys' denouement, and get them out of your system and our reading material. Or else, your fans will continue to trash your stuff, when we know that you have years of great psychological expertise yet to share.
P.S. to researcher: Opening chapter in 1979; Purell did not come onto the market until the late '90's.
Book Review: Too much chit-chat Summary: 1 Stars
I've been a Jonathan Kellerman fan ever since I read "Butcher's Theater" back in trhe 70s and have read all the Alex Delaware novels and enjoyed almost every one of them.
However, sad to say,I think he's slipping badly from his old standard. This
book contained very little action - mostly just these brilliant guyssittingaround eating tossing ideas back and forth - all sounding like they're speaking with the same voice.Frankly,Ifound this novel boring, something I never thought I'd say about this writer.
I hope he getsback to his usual standards soon, or I won't read him anymore.
Book Review: A definite no Summary: 1 Stars
where to start on this one? I absolutely love the Alex Delaware novel series. sure I get tired of the whole Robin thing, but if you're willing to push through those parts you're normally not disappointed. This book made no sense...who killed the first police officer..what's the significance of his partner getting together with the wife and fathering a child, alcoholism? And if I heard one more description of Aaron's clothes, taste in food or whatever, I'd puke. Cannot believe I stayed in till the end. I suppose you get this with popular authors sometimes, they start to smell themselves. Total waste of time.
