Book Reviews of True Detectives: A Novel

Book Review: not Kellerman's best work
Summary: 3 Stars

I am a big fan of Jonathan Kellerman's writing and truly enjoy his Alex Delaware novels. And although some stories are better than others, TRUE DETECTIVES has to be one of his worst. I was disappointed in this story of two brothers (one a cop, the other a private detective) and them working the same case. The main characters here were minor characters in another Kellerman novel, and he does bring in Alex, Milo and Petra as minor characters in this one. But the story drags and didn't hold my interest. I hope his next novel brings back to Alex Delaware.

Book Review: Really Upsetting...
Summary: 1 Stars

This was really upsetting. I waited so long for this book...pre-ordered and everything...it was all I could think about. I adore J.K., I've devoured every book, but I have to guess that this was not written by J.K. (or written when he was on something maybe?) It was such a tough read...I stuck with it thinking it had to get better, it never did. Just too complicated, too many characters (who didn't matter), I did not care about the brothers or their relationship (what was the point)... it was just stupid.

Book Review: Something New
Summary: 4 Stars

This was a departure from his Delaware books and it was a nice breath of fresh air. Though I love the Delaware series, this is a new voice Kellerman is writing in. First introduced in Bones, the brothers, Aaron and Moses make a wonderful addition to the Kellerman rooster. Though Sturgis and Alex play a backseat to the drama, they add that typical Kellerman touch. I hope this isn't the last I've seen of these battling brothers. I would love to see another one about them. Enjoyable Read!

Book Review: I disagree
Summary: 2 Stars

I thought this book was overly complicated in it's mystery. I thought the relationship between the protoganist brothers was never totally explained (I guess leaving that for future novels). The characters were not engaging and I didn't really care about that. It seems Mr. Kellerman is just pumping out whatever rather then really developing a story. He throws in his other characters just to get people to buy his books, instead of really making them fit into the story.

Book Review: And that is being generous!
Summary: 2 Stars

This is his worst. Kellerman used to be one of my favorite authors. The last one was so so, this one is awful. I'm wondering if he even wrote it! The characters are boring and dull. The details overdone - clothes, food, etc way too overdescriptive and have nothing to do with the plot.
I tried hard but could only get 1/3 of the way through it before I decided I really didn't care how it ended - in fact, it didn't have much of a plot to interest me.
DULL!
