Book Reviews of Twelve Sharp (Stephanie Plum, No. 12) (Stephanie Plum Novels)

Book Review: Sharper and Darker
Summary: 5 Stars

Ranger has gone to Florida and soon after his daughter disappears. A crazy woman, claiming to be Ranger's wife, takes a shot at Stephanie and soon after her murdered corpse is found in a vehicle parked outside the bonds office where Stephanie works.

There's plenty of humor in this Plum of a novel but the book cuts a little sharper and a little deeper. We laugh, but Evanovich shows she she can keep us on tenderhooks and crying seems to be a real possibility, especially as Stephanie sits tied up in her apartment with a homicidal maniac, waiting for the door to open so the murder can kill one of the two men she loves. Which one?

Book Review: Best of the series
Summary: 5 Stars

The plot of this is more serious than that in any of the previous books (identity theft by a sociopath; child abduction). Additionally, there's a recognition that Stephanie's ambivalence in regard to Morelli and Ranger involves more than simple indecisiveness or immaturity.

As a final note, I worry about the focus of reviewers who call Stephanie Plum an "incompetent" bounty hunter. There's still slapstick (an integral part of the humor/comedy of the series) and she experiences pratfalls. However, most of the time, she accomplishes her task and brings the targeted FTA in.

Book Review: The best Plum in ages
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read every book in the Stephanie Plum series and was beginning to think that the series had run its course - the books had become too repetitive and predictable. Well, Twelve Sharp changed my mind. It's got slapstick humour, suspense, sexual tension and all the inimitable characters Plum fans have come to know and love - Stephanie, of course, and Morelli, Ranger, Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Cousin Vinnie, and Stephanie's parents (thankfully, sister Valerie and her family are out of the picture, and I hope they stay that way).

Book Review: Entertaining, BUT...
Summary: 2 Stars

Eh...I read this on my mom's referral and while it was entertaining and fast-paced, I wasn't enthralled by it. As I think about it, there were some fun characters and they were the high point (Lula and Ranger, specifically). I think my major issue with this book was Stephanie! I know everyone loves her, but I thought she was annoying and kind of pretentious. It was a fun romp through the underbelly of Jersey's "FTAs" as Plum calls them, but I probably won't be reading any other Evanovich books...but I see why people like them.

Book Review: One of my favorites
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading the other reviews, I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the next book, but it turned out to be one of my favorites. We get to know a little more about Ranger when his daughter is kidnapped, by a Ranger want-a-be. I am a little bothered that he is not more a part of her life, except for financial support, but that is not what these books are about. They are light reading, with alot of laughs and off-the-wall "happenings". I'm sure I'll continue to read as many as she writes.
