Book Reviews of Voyager (Outlander)

Book Review: Simply Amazing!
Summary: 5 Stars

Some years ago I had started to read this series and made it halfway through Dragonfly in Amber before I stopped, for some reason. Not too long ago I decided to begin the series again and have not been able to put them down since! The story of Claire and Jamie is absolutely amazing...Diana Gabaldon has the knack of bringing you right into the world of Claire and Jamie, so much so that you can picture everything with perfect clarity. I just started reading Voyager 3 days ago and I am almost done with it. Once you start reading, it is extremely hard to put the book down. And I must say that these books are the only ones that have ever brought tears to my eyes! The stories are so interesting that despite the length of each of the books, you fly right through them as if they were merely a couple of chapters. Diana writes them with such attention to historical details, that I don't find myself saying "that never happened that way!" In fact, in my research into Highland history, I came across a story of a John Fraser who in fact survived the killings after the battle of Culloden, as Jamie did, although he was injured much worse than Jamie was!

I am so glad that I gave this series a second chance, and will be quite sad once I have finished them, I will more than likely go back and give each and every one a second read!!

Book Review: Huge fan but this fell flat
Summary: 3 Stars

Voyager picks up right where Dragonfly left off, and I won't give any details away, but I will say that the immediate drama and action is still there - it's just not as ... immediate and dramatic. Blame this on the fact that the main characters still don't seem to have very many flaws and don't ever really do anything wrong - and so nothing really new ever happens to them? Plus the addition of new characters doesn't help much when they aren't treated with nearly as much character development and description as the 2 main characters are.

The main reason I'm still reading the Outlander series is admittedly because Gabaldon did such a bang-up job on the first one. Unfortunately (for me, at least) the steam of the original romance has already run out, and so has the sense of real danger and the what-would-you-do fantasy that kept us guessing through Outlander and Dragonfly. I really hope this is just a lull in the scheme of things, and I still plan to pick up Drums of Autumn, in hopes of some real turning points in the story. Voyager did end with a good cliffhanger, and in some form I do very much care about Claire and Jamie's adventures, mostly because of Outlander, but there's a reason it took me a longer time get through this third one.

Book Review: The greatest reunion ever...
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, I said that "Dragonfly in Amber" was my favorite in the series, but after reading the first three books for a second time, I think that "Voyager" is now the favorite by the slightest margin. Claire undergoes the time travel for the second time after she discovers that Jamie survived the battle of Culloden. When I finally got to the scene when Jamie and Claire were reunited, I couldn't breathe. Never was a moment in literature so anticipated and so enthralling that you can't help but read it over again and again. And then there was the when Claire finds out that Jamie is married, and the greatest (and hottest) fight scene goes down between the two. I read that scene about four times.

Like the previous two books, Gabaldon keeps you entertained from front to back, just one adventure right after the other. You even wonder how she comes up with all of this stuff. Only the imagination of a literary goddess has that ability.

I have Voyager and the rest in the series like my grandma had "Gone with the Wind" when she was a young woman. God bless Diana Gabaldon and her ability to spin such a lovely, fascinating tale about two people so in love, a love that should be experienced by everyone.

Book Review: Review from One Book At A Time http://onebooktime.blogspot.com
Summary: 5 Stars

At the start of this book, I was afraid it wasn't going to live up to the first two. It took me awhile to figure out why I wasn't liking it as much. While I enjoyed learning about Jamie and Claire after they were separated, it's the two of them together that make this series so special. And then I realized that story of their 20 years apart is important too. As a reader we need to understand how much of an influence they had on one another. That even after 20 years (not to mention 2 centuries), they still hold those outstanding feelings for each other. But, I have to admit, that moment in the print shop was what I was waiting for! This book takes you on a ride. It's not stop action with all that heart stopping romance in between. It's suspenseful, and at times I really wondered if Jamie and/or Claire was going to get out of whatever situation they managed to find themselves in. It had some major shocks and twists in it, things that I was down right not expecting. And, at times I wondered if 20 years of separation was just too much to overcome. At the end of the story, I was left with a book that rivals my first love of Outlander! I was amazed at the story Diana Gabaldon has managed to create.

Book Review: Diana Gabaldon is the best fiction writer ever
Summary: 2 Stars

I really do not understand reviews that basically tell you the whole plot of the book beforehand. Personally, I like to know OTHER books reviewers like (to create a yardstick) and also compare this book to others the author wrote. Please do NOT give away the plot in your review people!!! For me, Diana Gabaldon is the yardstick in which I evaluate all other books. I am a voracious reader, I read about 2-4 books a week, 95% fiction. I like romance, (but only if it has a great plot, not "bodice rippers". ) Time travel, and fantasy. This authors characters are so alive you might really, really believe they are real! Her books are not for the "weekend warrier" type of reader, they are wordy and long. For me, this means I miss a lot the first time around (ADD!) so I get to read them over and over, enjoying new things each time. Her history is correct and these books might spark an interest in Scottish or European history. The entire Claire/Jaime series is incredible, for anyone who enjoys outstanding writing, even if this is not your first pick of genre.
p.s. I rated this book 5 stars but it came out 2 and would not let me correct it when I clicked edit.
