Book Reviews of Voyager (Outlander)Book Review: Diana Gabaldon Series Summary: 5 Stars
I truly did not want to read this series of books. I had just finished everything Sharon Kay Penman wrote, and was looking for something else to read. Outlander was highly recommended by a lot of Penman's fans, but a woman traveling back in time? Anyway, I thought what the heck and bought it. I LOVED IT. I am completely hooked, and bought the whole series, except for Drums of Autumn, and went out of my mind trying to order it ASAP. Just got that one yesterday, and already 300 pages read. When this series is over, I'm going to miss it like I did Jane Austen, Penman, Bronte sisters, Francis Burney, and on and on. Where is my Jaime? Why isn't my husband like him,,,,LOL.
Book Review: Dinna Trouble Yourself Summary: 2 Stars
So, OK... I admit that I liked Outlander and Dragonfly... but Voyager was just ludicrous. But after slogging my way through Voyager, I feel complete with the series. I realize that this book is supposed to be over-the-top action and people admire it because the lovers aren't in their 20's. But Gabaldon over-uses phrases and all judgements about people are based on what their eyebrows are doing. The setting of the various boats they are in are claustrophobic and Claire is taken hostage so many times in the three books I have read, you would think that she would be used to it. If you want non-stop action, then go for it. But this is definitely a book for plot junkies.
Book Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
This whole series is just delightful. Very well written, well developed storyline, well developed characters. Just absolutely great! Huge books, but you'll blow through them fast. Don't be discouraged by the size or the fact that there's a time travel aspect to it (I put off reading the series for 7 years because of these 2 things). The first one is more of a romance, the second is more historical fiction, the third and fourth are more adventure, the fifth and sixth go back to being more historical fiction, and they all have just about every since genre woven throughout. So it doesn't matter what genre you prefer to read, this series will fit into it!
Book Review: Awsome read Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this book. This is actually the third one, of a so far eight part series, telling the story of Claire and Jamie. Some time ago I started with Drums of Autumn, then ran across A Breath of Snow and Ashes and realized that I wanted to start at the begining. So I ordered all the books that I have not read. I am so glad I did. This is a marvelous story with a lot of history thrown in the mix. I have become very fond of the leading characters who are very human. Amazon has it listed under Romance novels, but I don't think that is a good place for the series. I think more folks would read the books if they were under Historical Fiction.
Book Review: Favorite Jamie and Claire to date Summary: 5 Stars
Each book in the Outlander series seems to be more exciting than the previous book - Voyager rates in the "couldn't put it down" category from me and the members of our book club. If you haven't read any books in the series, start at the beginning with Outlander and I promise by the time you reach this 3rd book, you will no doubt be a "Fraser" fanatic. I was a reluctant reader when we decided as a club to read Outlander - sheer size of the novel was daunting, but GO FOR IT. Each word is necessary to the storytelling and you won't even notice the how many pages go by and POOF, you are done and in a panic to get the next book.
