Book Reviews of Wacky PackagesBook Review: Highbrow lowbrow Summary: 5 Stars
This book may be one of the most pointless things I ever needed to have. The production is gorgeous, down to the waxy Topps paper the dustcover is printed on. If you're looking for a lot of scholarly insight it's not here. Art Speigelman's brief intro tells you everything you need to know, the rest is pictures of the stickers. For a designer, this book is pure inspiration - wacky wordplay, pastiche, essence of package design, etc. And the price is terrific.
Book Review: Wrong edition received Summary: 5 Stars
Ordered on November 22, 2008, but must already be too late to receive the 1st printing, as I received the 2nd printing, instead (even though picture of book's dust jacket on Amazon product page is of 1st edition, as indicated by "Interview with Art Spiegelman"--whereas 2nd printing says "Introduction by Art Spiegelman"). The four bonus stickers included in the back are: Schmutz Beer, Alcohol Seltzer, Blast Blew Ribbon Beer, and KOOK Cigarettes.
Book Review: Great Blast from the Past! Summary: 5 Stars
It is great to see these old memories revived. I remember collecting the first set of Wackies, as a kid, back in the late 60's (that same first set was re-released in 1973). A real blast from the past! So much of the history and culture of my age-group (those born between mid 1954 and the end of 1964) has simply fallen between the cracks. I would like to thank Art Spiegelman for bringing back something of our forgotten generation.
Book Review: Wacky Packages Sticker Book Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this for my eight year old grandson and his ten year old friend. Both boys loved it and took it to school to show friends. Girls loved it as well and everyone told them they were so lucky. Well worth the money as it is helping my grandson with his reading because it is funny. Both boys father's collected these stickers when they were kids so they get a kick out of it as well.
Book Review: This is how it should be done Summary: 5 Stars
If you still have wacky package stickers on various pieces of your parents' furniture, you'll love this book. They did the smart thing and gave each sticker from the first 7 series their own page. No freaky layouts. It's just pure joy flipping through the pages.
This is pure perfection. They need to come out with a second volume with the remaining stickers.
