Book Review: Not what I expected...Pretty good

I have just completed "Waking with Enemies" by Eric Jerome Dickey. This is the sequel to "Sleeping with Strangers" which I didn't know until I read the acknowledgements at the back of the book. Well, the book held its own, meaning that one wouldn't know that there was a prequel and Dickey did an good job putting this tale together. Although it is a bit explicit with the sexual content it breaks away into an action packed story that leads an International hit man in search of the person who put out an "hit" on him. Gideon (the main character) is not a hero.. I mean, he kills for a living and has a very dangerous past. He is known throughout his world as one of the most dangerous men in his line of work. Therefore he has lots of enemies, people who want vengeance for the things that his has done. But which of them took out a contract for his life??? We are with Gideon as he discovers who is after him.
I bought the book looking for a mystery.. As I read the first couple of chapters, I thought I made a mistake as it appeared to be something Zane would have written to stir up things from within (if you know what I mean). It was a slow start however, as I continued through, it started to pick up. I realized later that I got what I was looking for in terms of a "who done it" mystery. I was a bit concerned about choosing this one because I wanted it to be true literature and not one of the typical easy reads. Dickey's writing exceeded my expectations.
In Sum.. it was a slow start...Too much going on erotically with Mrs. Jones and Lola Mack.. could have been toned down a bit because I was looking for more Gideon vs. Bruno action. But it picked up and I was satisfied with the reading.
