This book has been helpful for me to get practicing. So far I haven't pumped out any masterpieces, but this book is good for taking you slow through practicing brush strokes and getting comfortable with the paint and brushes. Its helpful also in suggesting the type of paper and brushes to use as well as the type of paint. I like that because I don't want to be set up for failure with brushes that are cheap and paint that looks bad on paper. The feeling from this book is to explore, and just have fun. I like that a lot since I am merely an overwhelmed beginner.Book Review: Very nice book for beginners

The taget audience of "Watercolor Basics" is people who want to learn watercolor painting from scratch. This book presumes no prior knowledge of art or painting or drawing. The lessons make good use of step-by-step examples to demonstrate watercolor techniques and help the reader reproduce those techniques. Normally I abhor step-by-step examples, but these are very well done and really quite helpful. People with a lot of experinece in drawing or painting other mediums will find this book a quick read but still useful.Book Review: Great tool and teaching book

After looking at the library copy of Jack Reid's books on water color tecnniques, I knew it was the best way to learn and feel confident that I can do it! I had to have a copy of my own. The illustrations are great as the painting develops step-by-step, gently leading me to a new skill. Enjoyable confidence builder. Also, Mr. Reid's approach on materials is easy on the budget and makes the picture more important than the kind of brush that paints it. Styrofoam and twigs are right up my alley.Book Review: Excellent book and great paintings

I was completely captured by the reprints of Jack Raid's paintings included in this book. This book includes detailed examples and clear instruction steps, is the best Watercolor beginner's book I ever seen. Jack made the art of watercolor painting looks so simple yet elegant. I hope Jack continues to publish more advanced books for students who can't attend his workshops.Book Review: Fantastic

This is the least intimidating instruction book I have found for the watercolor medium. I have had to teach myself to think in simpler, less detailed ways to improve my art and this reference has helped. This was the first book I came across that made me think 'I can do this' rather than 'I wish I could do that'. Well done, Mr. Reid.
