Book Review: A "rare" cookbook indeed!

Here we have one of those rare culinary volumes which is actually helpful, and inside, you'll discover a treasure of grilling knowledge. Clearly, this is the bible for outdoor chefs.
I sort of specialize in gourmet outdoor cooking effecting all techniques including (but not limited to) grilling, smoking, dutch oven, cooking on a spit, and open campfire, utilizing many different woods and devices to achieve my ends. I don't limit my outdoor cooking to meats and barbeque -- I do Chinese, desserts, seafood and all manner of side dishes. This book contains very excellent rubs, sauces, and meal recipes that you'll find are difficult to beat -- the methods are quite clear and the book is as useful for the grilling veteran as it is for the newcomer to these skills. I know of no better work on this topic.

that is no exaggeration, and i have no affiliation with weber! i use this book and "weber's real grilling" 4 to 5 times a week, every week. all these great recipes may be done indoors as well (stovetop grill pan or broiling) with nearly equal success, so don't be dissuaded by winter, or even by not owning a grill. i don't use any other cookbooks at all, although i plan to get "weber's art of the grill". the key here, i believe, is jamie purviance. these recipes are phenomenally impressive, and while some are time-consuming (but well worth the effort!), most are less than an hour from start to finish. many are ridiculouly easy. i recommended this book to everyone i know, and all have raved about it. i owe it to jamie to give him a plug...after all, he changed my life! the writing and photography are top notch as well.Book Review: The "Red" Book

I suppose that my love for this cookbook was sealed with the word "Weber" in the title. My love of Weber grills aside, this is a must have cookbook for any griller, serious or otherwise. My prerequisite for a cookbook is great, easy to understand recipes with incredible pictures. My next cookbook benchmark is to check how many pages are stained or "dog-earred". The Big Book of Grilling has both...in spades.
I have used this book steadily since it first came out and I still find new things that I have past over and end up enjoying years down the road. Consider adding this book to your grilling arsenal, you will not be disappointed.

Excellent variety of recipes ensures you won't get bored. Recipes are well written, easy to follow and results are impressive. If you have a Weber, the cooking times are right on (can't say for other mfgrs). Lots of tips, info and diagrams on cuts of meat and how-to's on prep - you can learn alot about grill technique from this book. No nutritional info with recipes. Full color pictures will make your mouth water. Also rounds out the entrees with sections on sides, salads and desserts - you can create your whole menu from this book.Book Review: Love, love, love this book!

I'm one of those people who loves buying and looking through any kind of cookbook. I get cooking magazines too (including Gourmet). But so far, nothing tops this grill book. It is my favorite! And my husband's too. We've had it for several years and have probably made at least half the recipes in it - and they were all so tasty! I even use some recipes for non-grilling ideas. I highly recommend this book for casual grilling and formal entertaining. There's something for everyone.
