"Welcome to the world..." is a pageturner. The style is reminiscent of "women's fiction" and yet you find it difficult to put the book down. What's more, the deceptively simple and at times kitchy prose manages to raise a number of interesting issues, including the ways and means of American national media institutions, particularly television.

A novel spanning late 1940s small-town America and the New York media world of the 1970s, by the author of FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLESTOP CAFE. It tells the story of a television interviewer with emotional and drink problems who was abandoned as a teenager by her mother.Fans of Fannie Flagg's Southern-fried yarns will enjoy her folksy reading of her third novel--the story of New York TV anchorwoman Dena Nordstrom, who must take her fast-paced life down a few notches, face her mysterious past, and shake hands with her small-town heritage in order to find happiness.
