Book Reviews of Welding BasicsBook Review: Welding Basics Summary: 1 Stars
This book covers the very low level basics and should be used by people who can not tell the difference between a straight blade screwdriver and a phillips screwdriver.
The book even walks you through plugging the machine in....if someone needs this kind of help they may want to go to a public library or even better....
Everything that is in the book is available free on the internet.
I would pass on this if I were a person needing practical welding help....and use the saved money on better welding consumables.
Book Review: Little SMAW Coverage Summary: 3 Stars
My weld process of choice is Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Unfortunately, there is not nearly enough detail in this book to make it even marginally useful to SMAW welders. MIG, TIG, and Oxy/Acetylene are covered to far greater depth.
Since it was my own expectations that were not met, I went with a relatively neutral 3-star rating. This book might be just fine if your process is other than SMAW.
Book Review: Great buy for 1st timers Summary: 4 Stars
This book if filled with the basics of welding on a practical level. Things like: what your need, procedures, how to weld, and projects. The lavish photos and illustrations make welding much easier by comparing your weld with the book. I learned everything I know from this book, and when I welded my first time I failed....but now I'm much better. Practice makes perfect. Overall, a great book for the price!
Book Review: Excellent for beginners - photos alone are worth the price! Summary: 5 Stars
The author tells you upfront that he assumes you already know welding and that this book is a refresher for those that have not done welding in some time. The photos alone are worth the cost - they are superb - the list of projects is excellent as well. This would not be the only book I'd own on welding but it sure would be one of them because a picture is worth a thousand words!
Book Review: Good Colorful Pictures, But More Theory Needs To Be Explained Summary: 4 Stars
Good colorful pictures to start off with. This book mostly explains about welding projects such as making a welding table and ornamental accents. Good book to buy for the first timer interested in welding. For the advanced I would skip on to another publisher.
