Book Reviews of What Was Lost: A NovelBook Review: Spooky. Surprising. Excellent. Summary: 4 Stars
What a debut from a first-time author. This highly original novel tells the story of child-detective Katy, whose last investigation has surprising ramifications for a group of people who work at/live near a local shopping center. Is this a mystery? romance? drama? ghost story? You'll have no idea where this one is going, and you'll love every minute of it.
Book Review: Character story, not a mystery Summary: 3 Stars
First let me say that I really enjoyed the writing and would read something by this author again. I was hoping for more about the disappearance of Kate, but that really becomes a backdrop for the characters. It seemed like the mystery got wrapped up very quickly in the last few pages, as an afterthought. But I blew through this book -- loved the humor!
Book Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
I was so disappointed with this book. I had high hopes, but found the story very slow and boring. I had a very hard time finishing it, and felt it was a waste of a very long week. The resolution was summed up in one page, and there was nothing leading up to it, just nothing happening until all of the sudden it just ended.
Book Review: Contrived but with decent writing Summary: 3 Stars
Interesting story, but it was far too contrived for my taste. Her "voice" as the child was a bit annoying to get through. Some nice writing. Didn't feel too forced. Some good characterization too. But in my opinion it didn't make up for its flaws.
Book Review: book discussion Summary: 5 Stars
I chose this book as our book discussion for May. It is a great read...once started hard to put down. Enjoyed by all in group. I am a librarian and have lead this group for many years. Amazon has provided me with many of our books.
