Book Review: Hope and a Recovery Plan for Fibro Patients

I'm very impressed with this book! It offers a plan for recovery, detailed information about how this plan works with your body to reverse fibro's affects, and hope for lifelong management of the disease.
BACKGROUND: WHERE I'M COMING FROM...
As a woman who has lived with fibromyalia for 11 years, I have tried many prescription drugs to soothe my symptoms and read many books on the disease in an attempt to educate myself as to what proactive things I could do to live with the disease, or better yet, reverse its affects on my system.
I don't like to take drugs, but I did find one that helped. A prescription medication that will be on the market next month.
As part of a clinical drug trial for Milcinipran; FDA approved under the drug name SAVELLA, I felt like my old self again. I was thrilled, but the symptoms returned once I went off the drug and the drug upset my IBS symptoms at higher; most effective, doses.
Savella is an antidepressant, but the protocol in What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia: The Revolutionary Treatment That Can Reverse the Disease doesn't call for antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, pain killers, or muscle relaxants. Instead it focuses on one over-the-counter medicine called guaifenesin (Mucinex) and avoiding products containing salicylates, which block guaifenesin from working properly to rid your system of phosphates. It does warn that once you go off guaifenesin or if you start blocking its benefits by using products with salicylates, your symptoms will return.
Currently I take Aleve and guaifenesin. Nothing else, in an attempt to give this book's protocol a fighting chance to work in my system.
THIS BOOK & THE PROTOCOL
What I liked most about this book is that it offers fibro patients a recovery plan. So many books of this type will talk about symptom relief, but not give you a plan of action to get over fibro and move on!
Anyone who suffers from chronic pain, the inability to think clearly, poor sleep, TMJ, IBS and a host of other ills, should consider this book and it's protocol or plan, as a life-saving measure.
What have you really got to lose? Your favorite hair products? Some sugar in your diet? Letting go of those things seems like a small price to pay for sanity and renewed health!
MY EXPERIENCE THUS FAR...
I've been doing the protocol for a week now at 600mg a day, with some increase in overall symptoms.
According to the protocol if you're not significantly more pained at this dose, you should increase it to 1200mg a day and expect relief as early as 7 to 10 days, but more likely a month.
This relief will ebb and flow, but as the author points out, fibro didn't come on overnight and will take some time to leave your system.
I'm optimistic. I've had one day this week where I felt more energetic and less pained, despite the cold weather. That's better than the past 24 weeks...so I'll keep forging ahead, sticking to the protocol, and expecting better days.
MY ADVICE
Get mad and fight back: "You CAN be healthy again!" Reading this book is a good start with a solid plan of action. While it won't be easy, you're not living 'easy' now, so undoubtedly you're up to the challenge. Now you just have to accept it.
