Book Reviews of When You Are Engulfed in FlamesBook Review: So very funny and fun to read! Summary: 5 Stars
David Sedaris is so wonderfully funny and delightful to read that you will put down whatever book you are currently reading to give his book When You Are Engulfed In Flames a fast fun read! My dear friend suggested wearing depends while reading because one might wet their pants from giggling and laughing so much, I have to agree with her. Caution do not drink beverages while reading this book because they are sure to shoot out your nose while you turn the pages! Got it? Read it and have one of the best afternoons ever reading.
Book Review: Not funny Summary: 2 Stars
This is a book filled with essays or short stories that involve Sedaris life that I checked out because it was recommended by Yan. I thought the first essay was funny, but the rest of the stories just sound like Sedaris being mean and not that funny. Sure it got a giggle or two out of me when he read some of the essays to a live audience, but I almost didn't finish the audio book, and I barely remember the last couple shorts. Not sure why I didn't just scrap it completely, because near the end listening to it was horrid.
Book Review: Too funny not to be read! Summary: 5 Stars
David Sedaris takes the littlest things and turns them into full stories with wit, humor (albeit a little dark - OK a lot dark!), sadness, and sometimes head-shaking ridiculousness! He says what we are thinking but would never say - with simplicity and reckless abandon. His story about racing an unsuspecting woman in the pool was laugh-out-loud funny. Sitting, reading a book, laughing out loud - that just doesn't happen, but it does with this book. You won't be sorry!
Book Review: Another run-away hit! Summary: 5 Stars
What a treat to hear David at a book signing, and to meet him in person. His books are amazingly funny, and easy with which to identify for us all. This book is his best work yet, although I do enjoy giving Holidays on Ice as a Christmas present every year Holidays on Ice: Stories. It's the book with the liquor tumbler on the front, of course.
Book Review: Sedaris: Rx for when you're on chemo Summary: 5 Stars
Nothing makes me laugh harder or longer than David Sedaris' bits. Going through chemo, a little weepy, I decided to start this book. It quickly brought my spirits up and got my sense of humor back on track. Going to have to dig out his older books to re-read to get me through the rest of treatment. I loved this book as much as I loved all his others...found it a bit mellower, less risqué, but had a ball reading it.
