Book Reviews of White Trash Cooking (Jargon)

Book Review: It was funny, then my black mother wanted to cook the stuff.
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, I got this as a lark many years ago. As time passed more and more black older people were wanting copies of pages for them selves. Seems they were eating the same stuff down the road, and across the tracks? My mother first thought it was gross, then read the stuff and stopped on this page, and that, and went to the kitchen and cooked up what she had missed for years. Her mothers food. I never thought of patoto chip sandwiches though? But mirical whip and jello live in my mind. And Jesus, Macaroni & Cheese. My son loves hot dog water soup. Go figure.

Book Review: Wonderful backwoods recipes.
Summary: 5 Stars

Mickler grew up in the backwoods of north Florida in Palm Valley between St. Augustine and Jacksonville. His recipes reflect the homestyle cooking of that area and other areas of the South. The recipes frequently use canned fruits and vegetables, Crisco and other nonpolitical ingredients. They are familiar and nostalgic to anyone who grew up in the rural South, easy to prepare, and good. The photos of Southern country are also familiar and nostalgic. A great book to read, look through, and use.

Book Review: Side-Splitting, Lip-Smacking Good Humor
Summary: 5 Stars

Enjoy tried and true recipes guaranteed to baffle the Yankee in all of us; Ernest Mickler brings the textures and flavors of the Po South to our dining and coffee tables. A winning combination of retold stories and refreshingly un-professional photography complete a pre-packaged feast of non-convenience foods. If your iron skillet is rusty, grab the lard and get ready for some rolicking good fun and food sure to upset your cardiologist...ya'll be sure to see "Fits & Cravings," too!

Book Review: Lip-smackin' good cookin'......
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is priceless. If you are a serious cookbook enthusiast, or just a casual collector, you cannot be without this book. The recipes are all down-home cooking, and some are quite good. There are sandwiches and salads in here that I never imagined! The book is very entertaining, and as stated previously, it is an authentic cookbook. The pictures are also great, and fit perfectly with the recipes. I recommend this book to any cook with a good sense of humor! Enjoy!

Book Review: Yes, there are really people who eat this stuff!
Summary: 5 Stars

Having had grandparents who still had an outhouse, I found the photographs in "White Trash Cooking" to be a wonderful reminder of what it was like to be at Grandma's house. And the variety of recipes (many worth a chuckle due to the assembly), from Ice Tea to Kiss Me Not sandwiches will surely give you a view of how the "other half" lives. This book makes me proud to acknowledge my "white trash" roots, because yes, there are really people who eat this stuff!
