Book Review: Contains mostly recipes that are not 100% whole grain, but are still VERY delicious none the less

This is a great cookbook for those who enjoy baking bread and would like to branch out into more whole grain breads. The biggest drawing point was that it had interesting recipes that branched beyond standard whole wheat breads. I'm always looking for new or different flavor combinations to try in bread so this was very appealing to me. So far I have tried the Chocolate, Walnut, and Wheat Bread and Apple Cinnamon Bread and both were fantastic. However, if you are still looking for more standard recipes you will find those here as well. I am especially looking forward to trying the One Hundred Percent Whole Wheat Bread and Buttermilk Oatmeal Bread.
Besides the recipes themselves, one of the other things I consider when buying a cookbook is the directions themselves. Because I am a beginning bread baker I appreciated that this book offered directions that were straightforward and thorough. At no point when trying the recipes did I have to research anything further on the Internet in order to feel confident my recipe would turn out. I felt that I had enough guidance from the recipe that I could ensure my success. In addition, the book gives separate directions for making the bread by hand, using a mixer, or using a food processor. This is great because as a beginner I appreciate the differences since I do not have enough experience to adjust the method on my own. I also loved that each recipe included proportions for a smaller, sample loaf, which is perfect if you want to experiment or try something without having to commit to a full-sized loaf. Yes, you could cut the proportions down yourself, but sometimes when baking things do not always scale up or down easily so it is nice to know that someone has done the work for you and tested accordingly.
The one thing worth noting about this cookbook is that most recipes use bread flour in addition to whole grain flour so if you are looking for recipes that only use whole grain flour you might be disappointed. Most of the recipes I tried used about 2 cups bread flour to 1/2 cup whole wheat (though the Chocolate, Walnut, and Wheat Bread does use an even ratio), which is something to consider when buying this book. Overall though I think this book does a nice job of introducing more whole grain flour into bread baking while still delivering fantastic flavor. I really enjoy baking from this book and look forward to continuing to do so in the future.
