Book Review: Nice Story, Choppy Ending, Still a Good Lesson to Learn

This is a picture book for kids about Christmas. The story is nice, the trees all want to be perfect so that they get chosen to be the royal Christmas Tree for the kingdom. They all now what helps them to become the best looking most perfect Christmas tree. The littlest Christmas tree in the woods is really looking forward to being chosen because he knows he's the most perfect, but then a bunny needs refuge and he lowers his branches and protects him, this makes his branches droop, a sparrow needs help in a storm, he sreads his branches and makes a spot for her, the deer need food, he lets them nibble his limbs.
It's a good story, but I thought the end was sort of thrown together with less care than the rest of the story. The moral is that the most beautiful are the ones who give of themselves.
It is a nice book, the illustrations are very pleasant, I just felt the end was a bit hasty for such a nice lead up. The lesson of the book is quite wonderful. We are using this in a First Grade catechism class to teach the value of giving.

Long, long ago, in a land far away, lived a perfect little tree named Small Pine. Small Pine hoped to maintain its perfect form and be selected by the Queen as her Christmas tree. But as the warm-hearted little tree gave shelter to birds, rabbits, and deer in the forest, its branches became damaged. Fortunately, the Queen had a different idea of perfection...
