Book Reviews of Wilderness Survival: 1st EditionBook Review: Disappointing Read Summary: 1 Stars
I was given this book a few months ago by my brother. I have read many survival books and this one is definitely not on my top 10 list. The illustrations look like the author copied them from other survival books I own or off of the internet. The content is almost word for word from about 10 different books I own. I would not waste my money on this book. If you are interested in "Wilderness Survival" I would recommend buying "Outdoor Survival Skills" by Larry Dean Olson instead.
Book Review: A complete how-to guide on survival Summary: 5 Stars
Greg Davenport's book is the ideal learning tool for the wilderness traveler. It gives detailed instructions in a "how-to" format that will help you survive a -- no kidding -- survival situation. If you consider preperation part of your training--read this book. If you have room in your pack--carry it with you!!! No matter what your sport or environment this information and text should be part of your emergency survival gear.
Book Review: Teaches you how to think Summary: 5 Stars
Although it would be nice to have everything you needed for a survival situation, that isn't always the case. Davenport's book teaches you how to think through a survival situation and promotes the art of improvising when things go wrong. His book is straight forward--helping the reader identify survival needs while showing a myriad of methods in which to meet them.
It is a textbook! One I highly recommend!
Book Review: I highly recommend this book! Summary: 5 Stars
I agree with all those who found this book to be a great educational tool. It is direct and to the point! It covers all aspects of survival in a logical process giving multiple examples of how one might meet their needs. In addition, it helps the reader to develop their survival eyes and improvising skills. For those looking to learn survival skills and the theory behind the process, I highly recommend this book!
Book Review: Finally a book that focuses on Wilderness Survival. Summary: 5 Stars
"Wilderness Survival" is the most user friendly book I have ever read on survival--and I have read them all. Its straight forward, no nonsense approach provided me with the information I was looking for and unlike other books I didn't need to weed out all the authors comments or spiritual beliefs. "Wilderness Survival" is a book I'd recommend for anyone who travels into the backcountry.
