Book Reviews of Wire Wrapping: The Basics And Beyond

Book Review: Best Wire Wrap Book Available!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been wire sculpting for years and finally found a decent book for beginners and experienced wire sculpters alike. This book reminds me alot of the out of publish magazine, The Wire Artist. It's very detailed in it's instruction. Many fun projects to choose from. And most importantly the author gives ideas on how to go beyond the projects. You will get a very good foundation on making your own designs. Those that don't want to design their own pieces will enjoy the projects in this book. There is a TON of information in this book. FINALLY! a good wire sculpting book to add to my jewelry making library!

My only small gripe is that I do wish the photos were in color, but that's not really a big deal when you think about all the useful info in this book. Definitely a *MUST HAVE* for the jewelry maker's library;o)

Book Review: Great info not so great photos
Summary: 3 Stars

I really would have liked this book so much better if the photos were in color or if not, at least have them clear enough to be able to follow the steps so that you can practice the projects. I may be a stickler here but it really annoys me when a book has several typo's in it. I however don't agree with the author that you should practice on Sterling Silver wire. Unless of course you are made of money and don't mind throwing money out the window. There are sites such as Brandywine Jewelry Supply that can supply you with copper or brass which is cheaper than Sterling and you don't have to worry as much if you should mess up. The reason I am giving it three stars is because it is chocked full of helpful information. Some of it is helpful and others would have been more helpful if you can make out the pictures.

Book Review: Easy to understand, fabulous!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a LOT of wire wrapping books, metalsmithing books, almost the complete set of Wire Artist Mag's (no longer in print), subscribe to every bead, wire and jewelry magazine out there and I have to say this is one of the best wire wrapping books I have discovered! The author gives clear directions and there are actually <cough> pictures with each step in each project. There are several projects on bracelets, rings and pendants and I find the book to be very helpful in easing the tension in trying to decipher the instructions vs. only one or two pictures provided (usually). This author seems to actually be able to put himself in a student's shoes and understand that we need pictures as well as instructions. I highly recommend this book!! AAAAA+++++

Book Review: perfect for entry level wire wrapping
Summary: 5 Stars

This author figuratively holds your hand, leaves NOTHING unsaid and supplies you with all the information and pictures you need to successfully produce a lovely pendant on your first effort. If you need lots of shiny color shots you'll be disappointed as only the cover is in color. He uses minimal tools and gives some great tips on fine tuning ones you already have. Who would have thought you needed to look for nicks and gouges on your round nose pliers to avoid making marks on your finished piece......then telling you how to sand the inside of the jaws smooth???? How about using only dead soft wire (when most others are saying half-hard)! This couldn't be better for your first wirewrapping book. Good supply sources are given as well.

Book Review: Thoroughly the basics!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful guide for those who want to learn wire-wrapping. Techniques are presented "cook-book" style, with each step described and illustrated, so that learning the skills is easy. The use of humorous comments and tips engages the reader and makes it easier for the aspiring wire artist to acheive success. The author addresses the basic premise that assumes the reader wants use these project instructions as a springboard for developing their own style rather than simply reproducing the same designs repetitively. The guide gives suggestions on how a reader might experiment with a given design in order to adapt their own unique designs. I am very happy that I purchased this book and consider it a valuable resource.
