Book Reviews of Wire Wrapping: The Basics And BeyondBook Review: A Must Have! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been making jewelry for the past 8 years, and I own MANY books on wire-wrapping, beading, metalsmithing, designing, etc. This is by far the BEST book on wire-wrapping that I have come across to date.
The author takes you step-by-step the whole way through the book. He explains the different types of wire, why certain wires are suggested over others, the tools that work best (and why), how to properly setup for the projects, and then gives HIGHLY detailed instructions for each step of the wrapping processes for EVERY project in the book.
The projects are BEAUTIFUL and very well explained. If you are looking to expand your skills with wire-wrapping then this is THE book to buy!
Book Review: Be awared that this version from the publisher is in Black & White Summary: 1 Stars
I have seen previews of this book elsewhere and online at Google Books: [...]. The instruction photos are in colors! Of course, I'm disappointed when I opened the book from Amazon and saw that it was in black & white all the way (inside) except for the cover. I called Amazon and they verified that the books came directly from the publisher.
I contacted the author and he verified that due to the high printing cost, the current version from the publisher is all in black & white except for the cover. Mr. Jim Mackintosh informed that the only color copy of this book is the download version on his website at [...]
Book Review: Basic? Not this book Summary: 1 Stars
Bought this book because the word BASIC is in the title. There is NOTHING at all basic about this book. It starts right off for the first instruction to make pendants. Not one word about basic wire wrapping! If you want to make fancy jewelry, this is the book, should be called FANCY wirewrapping with ADVANCED techniques. Not one word about how to actually make even a wire link for a necklace or bracelet. Not one word. Now making a wire wrap link is basic. Wonder where on earth I can find a book for the beginning very basic of most basic wire wrapping? Anyone know?
I just wasted about 30$ on this advanced book.
Book Review: WIRE WRAPPING: THE BASICS AND BEYOND Summary: 5 Stars
This book is well and clearly written. It has much good information for the beginner. It has many good ideas for the experienced wrapper. The illustrations are clear. The steps are orderly and well placed. It is most valuable aid.
The one thing I was a bit disappointed about was the lack of at least two pages of color photo gallery. Something like that in the middle of the book would have made my day.
Nonetheless, 5 stars for Mr. McIntosh.
I highly recommend this book for beginners or anyone trying to refine their technique.

Book Review: just what I was looking for Summary: 4 Stars
This book tells and shows you how to incorporate loose stones into jewelry. Beautifully. Sounds simple but it is actually fairly complex. I collect loose mineral samples to use as focal points in necklaces and then have to figure a way to connect them to the jewelry. This book provided the specific information I needed (wire weight and profile, measuring, decorative touches, tools, finishing techniques) plus ways to incorporate stones into 3D jewelry like bracelets and rings. Very useful. A few color photos would have been nice, though the black and white photos were perfectly functional.
