Book Review: Kind of grows on you...

When I started to read this book, I got a little crazed about the typos and grammar errors but the more I got into it, the less important they seemed. It is actually an excellent instructional book with a comfortable laid-back style. Yes, I wish there were color photos, especially since it's not exactly a cheap book, but there are lots of helpful b/w pictures.
I've been wire wrapping for about a year but I found myself thinking, "Oh, THAT'S how it's done!" many times throughout the book.
Although it would benefit from the services of a good proofreader, this is a terrific book.

I purchased several books before I began to wire wrap. This book is the one that I refer to most. Yes, much of the instruction is in black and white but If you need color, get over it. Great color photos of finished products are very nice. Jim's practical attitude and instruction is incredibly helpful.
I would like, in his next edition, he go into more detail on annealing and step by step finishing of the metal. I have worked in metals so I was clear on the concept. But I think newbies could use that help.
Overall the best of the books that I have gotten.

I just started wire wrapping a few months ago and bought a few books and DVDs showing how to do it. This seemed to be the "basic" style for wire wrapping. This book takes the style I had just learned and adds another element to it and I love the different look! Plus it offers many other new, creative options to the basic wire wrapping. The downside is that all the photos are black and white (in this day and age color should be the standarad for "how tos")but the upside is that there are lots and lots of them for the many steps. This book offers a number of wonderful designs from basic on up to more advanced projects. What makes it a cut above many other wire wrapping books is the detail with which each project is explained along with pictures every step of the way, and as an added bonus, the author's wonderful sense of humor shines throughout. Even if you've never wrapped before, you can begin with this book. It is also useful for those who have mastered the basics and are seeking inspiration. This is probably the most in-depth wire-wrapping book currently on the market. I have "Moods in Wire" which is very good but this is the new standard. Lots of step by step B & W pictures, easy understand written instructions and a wacky humor makes the book fun to read. The projects start with basic technique then shows you how to make the design truly your own. You won't see excessively swirly patterns in this book. You will get encouragement to contintue to develope your style. Perhaps the only thing missing were more color photos.
