Book Review: Adam and Claire

This is the first series I have read that featured witches. I decided to pick it based on a free bookmark I received advertising the 4th book in this series, Witch Fury. The books are in this order Witch Fire (Elemental Witches, Book 1), Witch Blood (Elemental Witches, Book 2), Witch Heart (Elemental Witches, Book 3), and Witch Fury (Elemental Witches, Book 4). I have read Witch Fire, Witch Blood, and Witch Heart so far. These books are for adults. The sexual tension is intense, and the scenes are very descriptive.
Some of the returning characters are: Thomas Monahan, Isabelle Monahan (was Novak), Catalina Novak, Jack McAllister, Mira McAllister (was Hoskins), Adam Tyrell, Micah, Stefan Faucheux, they were introduced in Witch Fire and/or Witch Blood. They along with a few new characters make this story worth reading.
Since the previous book Thomas and Isabelle (their story is in Witch Blood) have gotten married. Jack and Mira (their story is in Witch Fire) have also gotten married, after she gave birth to their daughter Eva, an air witch - like her mother. Ever since they defeated Erasmus Boyle, the exiled Atrika demon, the Coven had been training extremely hard. The Coven still also has to worry about their long time enemy, the Duskoff Cabal, lead by Stefan. The Cabal has been quiet for the past year, but that just means they are planning something - waiting to stike.
It has been a year since Thomas, an earth witch, escaped from Eudae with the Help of Claire. Claire has been a handmaiden to Rue, the Cae - leader of the Ytrayi daaeman (demon) breed, for 23 years. She left Earth when she was 6 years old; her mother died 2 years later. Rue always treated Claire as a pampered pet, but he tampered with her magick - giving her abilities beyond the earth magick she was born with. There are four breeds of daaeman: (1) Atrika - the warrior class, (2) Mandari - the builder class, (3) Syari - the scholar class, and (4) Ytrayi - the leader class. The Ytrayi lead the charge hundreds of years ago to exterminate all of the Atrika. In retribution the Atrika attacked Yrystrayi, the Ytrayi palace, so Rue forced the elium into Claire and shoved her into a portal to Earth. However, 2 Atrika warriors followed her through before it could be closed. The 2 warriors Tevan, a Lieutenant in the Atrika military, and Kai, a Captain in the Atrika military, want to capture Claire because she has the elium, the most powerful weapon of the Ytrayi breed. And they will stop at nothing!
Adam, Thomas and Theodosius (Theo) Winters came to rescue Claire from the hospital, only to find the 2 Atrika warriors waiting. After escaping the hospital Claire, Adam and Theo ran...as fast and far as they could. Theo, a powerful earth witch, with no social skills - probably due to being kidnapped by the Cabal at seventeen - came to work at the Coven after spending time in a psychiatric ward. Adam, known lady's man, most recent fling is with a recently divorced water witch, Jess. Relationships between water and fire witches don't work out well, but that's ok since they are only in it for the sex. Adam immediately notices that Claire was pretty in an unconventional way. He had never been unfaithful to his now deceased wife -Eliza, but even when they were madly in love he still always noticed women. Adam wants to seduce her, but he knows he shouldn't - for lots of reasons. The number one reason - he's only willing to have no-attachment sex or is he? Claire has been in love once with a Syari daaeman, Ty, it was a disaster. Now Claire finds herself intrigued by Thomas and Adam, and since Thomas is off limits - that leaves Adam and she is way more intrigued by him anyway. Is she so attracted because of her limited experience with men or is there other reason?
I think that this book fell short of the others, the other dimension stuff didn't seem to mesh well and the odd names sometimes confused things. But overall, a good read - still very fresh ideas.
