Book Reviews of Without Fail (Jack Reacher, No. 6)Book Review: Seems like each new book is the best.... Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 7th Jack Reacher book I've read. I didn't get to a good start having begun with NOTHING TO LOSE but having now read the first six of the series, I understand why the popularity.I'm especially impressed with the sheer craftsmanship of these adventures. Just when I think I have the series pegged, Child comes up with a plot development I'm not expecting. It seems to me that this has the most heart of any I've read so far. The romance certainly has a twist, the woman in question having been in love with Reacher's older brother and transferring her affection over to Jack. And then there's Frances Naigley, a former associate of Reacher's and strictly platonic. The main plot has Reacher helping the secret service foil an assassination plot aginst the UsS. Vice president elect. A major complication is the fact that the veep is unaware of the threats being made. This is a real nailbiter, and my favorite so far although I wonder if that's just because it's the one I've just read and if one of the previous ones would instead be my favorite if it were the last one I've read.Whatever, this defiintely is a must read if you're looking for action that's loads of fun, but still has a deeper insight.
Book Review: Not Great, Not Even That Good Summary: 2 Stars
I love a good thriller, and when you add-in some government special forces type protagonists... You can usually count me as a fan. But i'm no fan of this book. It's dull. It lacks the sort of detail and authenticity that I expect in this genre. It moves slowly. It's more about Reachers love interests (is Froelich just using him to relive her lost relationship with his brother? Does Neagly have a thing for Reacher? Who cares, i say!) than catching the bad guys.
The novel just plods. We hear about what they discuss over coffee and how many cups they drank. We see Reacher give commands to colleagues and decline to say why. Oooohhhh...
Sorry, the suspense for ME in this book was my wondering if I could bear reading to the end.
Book Review: REACHER BOOK # 6 Summary: 4 Stars
WITHOUT FAIL is the sixth book in the Jack Reacher series and as with most series let me say up front it is best to read them in order. This book is a prime example of knowing the whole story helps. Jack is recruited by the head of the new VP's Secret Service detail to find holes in the protection. With female Army friend, Neagley, they are drawn into prevent a plot against the Vice President. This is an action, thought provoking read and a good story, if you accept the premise that the Secret Service would permit a drifter, albeit a former military man and brother of a former agent, to find flaws in their work. A good Reacher tale. RECOMMENDED
Book Review: First time I have read Child... Summary: 4 Stars
This was recommended by a book club, and never having read anything by the author, decided to give it a try.
What a great story...suspenseful, technically intriguing with interesting characters! Jack Reacher is the mysterious hero, with savvy and smarts, defying all stereotypes. The plot builds slowly until about 3 quarters through, then the mystery resolves, but the action and suspense intensifies. At the end, the villains' motives and the time they have to do all this may be a bit of a stretch, but still plausible. A great read and look forward to reading more of Child's stories.
Book Review: Complaint Summary: 5 Stars
Have written 3 emails to Adams Bookstore regarding "non-receipt" of this gift book sent to a family member. Have heard back from Amazon each time informing me they received my email to Adams Bookstore BUT have never heard back from the bookstore (Adams) that was suppose to ship the book. Therefore, I purchased the book from another bookstore and had it shipped to the recipient even though my credit card has been charged for the book and paid to Amazon. I would like a refund and Adams removed from your supplier for lack of response. Mrs. Wallace L. Maurer, faithful purchaser from Amazon.
