Book Reviews of Without Fail (Jack Reacher, No. 6)

Book Review: Routine Reacher offering
Summary: 3 Stars

I like the Jack Reacher series, but this one is pretty average at best. It grabbed my attention at first , but thereafter it was decent but not very gripping. The whodunit was revealed about halfway through, so the rest of the book was just sort of killing time until the Big Showdown between Reacher and the baddies. The book did finally build to a modestly exciting finale.

I've been reading this series in order, and along with Running Blind, this is probably the weakest entry. The first one, Killing Floor, is still the best, and Echo Burning was also very good.

Book Review: Another very good Reacher book
Summary: 4 Stars

If you are reading the Reacher series, don't skip this one. It's one of the better ones with the usual suspense and various elements that Childs connects all together at the end. There is the usual gal (who gets to continue in the next book for a bit), and the feeling you want the bad guys to pay, big time. I really enjoy the books as they have a continuity and the character seems realistic most of the time. There are a few stretches, but most of it seems pretty real in its own way. Enjoy!

Book Review: Without Fail.....Falls Short
Summary: 3 Stars

I've read them in order thus far and have loved the series. Without Fail....#6....does not make the grade. In comparison to the first Reacher books, this one plods along. Action is limited, and isn't that a main reason for reading these types of books? By no means is the story awful nor is it a waste of money; it just does not rise above average. Plodding, characters lack a little depth, limited action - good overall, but just not the level of GREAT I've come to expect.

Book Review: Wouldn't happen!
Summary: 1 Stars

Going to a civilian to "red team" an operation? A female MP NCO whose specialty is neck breaking? Loading a pistol's magazine one-handed? (That I'd like to see.) All Reacher is lacking is a cape and X-Ray vision. (Added after finishing the book.) "On the click." Reacher is dead. The condition of the magazine spring has nothing to do with firing the first round once it has been chambered.

Book Review: fast and easy read
Summary: 4 Stars

Another fast and easy to read book by Lee Child. Interesting plot and a surprised twist on the assassins... A great bed-time read.

By chance, I've read Lee Child's books in reverse chronological order. While Lee Child's more recent books are a bit predictable and mundane IMHO, he's definitely created some great work in the earlier books.
