Book Reviews of Without a Map: A Memoir

Book Review: Profound memoir
Summary: 4 Stars

This sad, yet inspirational memoir is moving and beautifully written. You won't be able to put it down and it will make you think long and hard about teenage pregnancy, abortion, and adoption. Meredith Hall tells her dysfunctional story with emotion and a small amount of well deserved self-pity. Some memoirs of late are written with such little emotion despite their sadness that I have felt the author was removed from their own story. Not so with Hall, she lets you feel her profound sadness and range of emotions and you will be so grateful that she included you in this amazing story.

Book Review: Without A Map
Summary: 5 Stars

I love the way this book was written. I wanted it to hold my interest ,and it did from the first page.
It caught my eye because I grew up in New Hampshire. The only beach I ever went to as a child was Hampton Beach.
I was surprised to read about the treatment this girl endured from everyone around her.I can remember that way of thinking, but that was extreme.I am so impressed at how strong and forgiving she is.
It's a beautiful story about a wonderful person.

Book Review: Brutally honest
Summary: 5 Stars

Unless you were an unwed, pregnant 16 year old in the 1960's you would not understand, but having been there myself, I consider this the best book on the market about the subject. Meredith Hall is extremely talented, she steps out of the box with this book and takes it up a notch. Being an unwed teen in the 1960's brought shame on your whole family, not just you and I think Meredith Hall got that message across directly and accurately. This is a book I will read again.

Book Review: Raw Honesty
Summary: 5 Stars

Meredith Hall's Memoir Without a Map is a must read. The author evokes so much raw emotion and honesty without being too sentimental. Her storytelling is quick and inviting. She moves back and forth through the times in her life without leaving the reader confused. This is truly a story of heroism and strength. A true testiment to love and the human spriit and the connection between a mother and child.

Book Review: A Broken Life
Summary: 3 Stars

The writer tells her sad tale fairly well although there are a few breaks in the narrative that leave the reader feeling the story is a bit disjointed in places. Toward the end of the book, this reader began to lose sympathy and wanted to urge the writer (even to shout at her!) to move forward with her life. The old saying 'on a deaf man's door you can knock forever' comes to mind.
