Book Reviews of Woman: An Intimate Geography

Book Review: Good read, if you can get past the author's personality
Summary: 3 Stars

I picked up this book in order to gain a greater understanding of women. I found a lot of informative information. However, you must brace yourself against the author's pretentious personality and her vehement feminism. She seems to be in a perpetual state of defensiveness. When picking up this book, I had no intention of being subjected to a feminist tract. Of the many author's I've read, this is the first one that managed to irritate me on a personal level. There's some objective and interesting information here, but you have to wade through the manifestations of her jadedness to get to it. You make the call; it's not a COMPLETE waste of time. Ms. Angier, relax.

Book Review: wonderful, i urge this on males & females.
Summary: 5 Stars

while, as some other reviewers have stated, all of this information can be found in college texts, medical reports and other data-sources these are not formats the average person finds nearby or is used to reading.

this book puts the information easily and comfortably into a reader's hands, while not over-simplifying or dumbing-down.

it gives more information than most casual readers would ever come across in one book and in a manner that is clear, interesting, in-depth, and makes one Want to find out more about the female body.

slow in parts, riveting in others. a MUST to read for both sexes.

Book Review: An amazing and informative book
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved Woman: An Intimate Geography! I have never found a women's health book as informational and entertaining. This well researched book is densely packed with facts and stories about all aspects of the female body. As a nonscientist, I found it especially interesting and easy to read. Despite the amount of information Angier presents, it is not text-booky or heavy reading. I have read it twice thus far, and could happily read it at least twice more in order to learn as much as I can about my body's inner workings. I think any human could benefit from reading Woman.

Book Review: Very informative and feminist!
Summary: 5 Stars

After looking for books about female biology and wanting something that did not place women in gendered roles according to their supposed biological nature, I came upon this one.
The author makes several invaluble arguments to counter the 'biology is who we are' theory. I'm a young university student and reading this was indespensable, and informative. All authors who write about women need to be feminists. Recommended for young women, particularly as an informed intelligent book about our body as well as armor for what society may be pushing down your throat.

Book Review: A Must Read For Everyone (not just women)
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't read this book expecting to find a "typical" dirt-digging, male-bashing, feminist manifesto. You'll be sorely disappointed. Read it instead to find a beautifully written, well-researched, and thoroughly balanced look at what makes a woman a woman (and, incidentally, what makes a man a man). You'll find yourself thinking about a *lot* of things in an entirely new light, and wanting to discuss her topics with friends and family, both male and female. Hers is the kind of refreshing viewpoint that we need more of. You go, girl!
