Book Reviews of Woman: An Intimate GeographyBook Review: This is science writing? Summary: 1 Stars
Although the premise of this book is promising and there are a few interesting little facts any real value is obscured by Angier's tired attempts at stylistic wit, complete failure to appropriately cite scientific findings, and blatantly opinionated feminist rhetoric. I was looking forward to learning more about the science behind the mystery of the female body. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.
Book Review: Teachers should recommend this book Summary: 5 Stars
As both an avid reader and a teacher of English in a secondary school I think that the informative as well as the literary value of this book is unquestionable. It is beautifully and very carefully written and accessible to every woman and man with a minimal knowledge of the world and desire to know and understand. I will certainly encourage my older students to read it.
Book Review: INFORMATIVE and quite interesting for all aged women! Summary: 4 Stars
Learned a few things here. Very broad and informative about the female body and it's varied life tasks. I found the chapters covering hormones, desire, estrogen, and evolutionary psychology to be very interesting and informative.A thorough and complete defining of the female make-up from the body through to the emotional and from babes to grandparenting. Well done.
Book Review: Angier gets it right about AIS Summary: 5 Stars
A great book! Angier provides a subtle and informed insight into the experience of androgen-insensitive women (in the form of Jane Carden's story, in Chapter 2 - The Mosaic Imagination). This is in huge contrast to the complete garbage printed on the same subject by Germaine Greer in her recent book on women. Don't buy Greer's rant, buy this excellent book instead.
Book Review: Spectacular! Summary: 5 Stars
Beautifully written. Angier has a true gift for translating scientific facts and theories into a lyrical narration. She relates everything to the human experience, making it all the more meaningful. When I read this book, I not only learned, but I was forced to think about things in ways I hadn't before. I would strongly recommend this book to every person I know.
