Book Reviews of World Made by Hand: A Novel

Book Review: How Would Your Life Change?
Summary: 5 Stars

This book made me survey my own life, physically and emotionally, and how my family would react in an apocalyptic environment. Could we reasonably secure our home? Do we have enough land to grow crops that would sustain us? Where could we find a safe water supply? How would we hold up under such great pressure.

If you have ever considered 'living off the grid', or about a catastrophic event or war on American soil, this book will give you even more to think about.

Book Review: The storytelling comes first
Summary: 5 Stars

This little novel was a pleasant surprise. It was quite the "page-turner," and, happily, the ideology took a back seat to the storytelling. I thought I noticed some similarity to the journey up-river strangeness of "Apocalypse Now" at times, mixed with a touch the picaresque novel in the manner of "Don Quixote." Since I already knew the author was planning a sequel when I finished it, the epilogue chapter seemed superfluous, but that would be my only gripe.

Book Review: World made by hand
Summary: 4 Stars

Being a fan of apocalyptic-type books, I looked forward to this one in particular. The book itself was well written but not as helpful - as far as giving insight on how you or I might manage our affairs in a similar event - up until things went paranormal, for lack of a better word. At that point, things got a little weird and the story line became something for the sci-fi fan, which I am not. But, overall, a good book.

Book Review: Powerful, believable, thought-provoking
Summary: 4 Stars

All this week since beginning this book I've been seeing the world through a different lens. I've found myself spacing out thinking about the world Kunstler has spun so well. A non-fiction post-apocalyptic prediction would seem preachy, but the characters in this vivid novel immerse the reader in the reality of how we live in the early 21st century, compared to how we might have to live someday.

Book Review: Great book...excellent timing!
Summary: 4 Stars

Although a fictional novel, this book was pretty relevant in giving us an idea of 'what if...' were to occur. Limited nuclear war, no fuel to run cars or for powering our lifestyle indulgences, population decimated by the war & a flu plague, etc. A carpenter, mechanic or Doctor become more important (for what they do)than an accountant or a CEO of a company. This book makes a person think!
